Aventador 6th Gear April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 For all these people, if they really want to realize all their aspirations (some of which described above), they need to upgrade themselves first lah. Target to raise their INDIVIDUAL income levels to $250,000 and up to $500,000 p.a., or more. Then can they truly enjoy the luxury of REALLY LIVING it in Singapore and NOT comprain! Anything less will only be making ends meet and the daily grunge ... I agree on the statement that we should seek contentment but I disagree on you claiming Singaporeans should target to raise individual income to $250,000 instead of complaining. No matter how much the average Singaporean upgrades himself, he is never going to hit that level of income It is easy for people who have higher incomes to tell those with lower incomes things like " work harder", "upgrade yourself", "the problem is you" etc. This has been the PAP thinking for many years and it is elitist Those better off forget that sometimes their "success" is due to family background and some luck. Instead we should support those complaining that life is difficult in Singapore rather then tell them to shut up Did they want Singapore to be the most expensive place to live in, did they want cars prices to be No. 1? did they want HDB flats to cost up to 1 million dollars? I can assure you many of the lower income would rather have Singapore of the 70s & 80s where life was simpler but cheaper No Michelin restaurants , and no Anton Caseys. Your end comments sound similar to the infamous "you want hawker centre, food court or restaurant" type reasoning
Enye Hypersonic April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 (edited) You are so very right there!!! That's the problem with a lot here Must have credit card - pay cash not good enuf, or just no enuf! Must have condo - HDB not good enuf, or want both ... but nowsaday the large condo setups run like HDB liddat ... somemore, 1 car park space per unit/proprietor - where got crass one?? Must have country club - public courses, public pools, public courts not style enuf Must have car - public transport not convenient enuf to hao lian Must earn plenty money, make lots of money from stocks and equities. Must send children to top universities, anything less than a bachelor degree is lau kui What happens when they invest but lose most, or all of their money? They cry mother, cry father, blame the banks and want their money back! So chao kuan! What happens when their money no enuf to buy car, because COE too expensive? They kpkb and blame LTA, blame MoT and blame garmen. What happens when their children cannot get into university? No, they will not admit that their children are not clever enuf. Instead, they blame garmen for incentivising foreign students to study here. What happens when they now realize they cannot afford to buy private property, after the recent cooling measures to limit total loan exposure? They try to circumvent the rules by 'transferring' ownership(s), get around ABSD rules, etc. And if still cannot take high loan, they blame the garmen. Otherwise, they should really consider taking the advice of our fellow MCFer paikia: to buy a bungalow with sprawling lawn and swimming pool in JB, a bolehsian-registered car(s) and even a personal driver! i know someone who shares your type of views but when his children wanted to marry a peasant, contented with HDB, public transport and $2k a month job he slammed them as useless and without aspirations even threatened to disown them and cut them off from his will. He thought their spouses were after his money. have money and luxurious lifestyle but still not happy I agree on the statement that we should seek contentment but I disagree on you claiming Singaporeans should target to raise individual income to $250,000 instead of complaining. No matter how much the average Singaporean upgrades himself, he is never going to hit that level of income Sorry that you have missed the intended allegory I had made to an "impossibility" for many, in order for one to REALLY live it up in SG. Again, it's got little to do with the garmen. It's globalization, event without the FT imports. You want tariff and duty subsidies? Look at Bolehsia, Thailand and Indonesia. The moment their garmen tries to lift long-engrained subsidies for fuel, electricity, grain products etc. there will be pandemonia and mass demonstrations ... a Singapore we do not want! Stop blowing smoke to obscure your own dumb comments Globalisation is the reason why Ministry of Finance/National Development set our land cost/pricing high? Obama told LHL how much to price "subsidised" HDB flats? And after the last election, now HDB flats are being sold cheaper suddenly is because we are less "Globalised" in the last 2 years? and who mentioned tariff subsidies? And suddenly you bring up mass demonstrations in Singapore? W210k 1st Gear April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 (edited) Actually, a lot of people do not realize, or forget that the whole of a country's economy is driven by oil and fuel prices, as a root cause of inflation. Nearly everything from: - the cost of transportation (petrol and diesel) - whether private car, goods van, taxis, trucks, lorries, MRT, buses, motorcycles - the cost of shipping and freight costs - cost of fuel for cooking (LPG) and thus the cost of cooked food - whether hawker centers, food courts, restaurants - cost of electricity (generated from LNG, particularly in SIngapore - without coal, wind, hydro, thermal, or nuclear sources) and thus operating cost overheads for all businesses - air-conditioning, lighting, printers, copiers, shredders, computers, servers, modems, televisions, device chargers, water pumps (embedded in tariffs) - cost of basically all goods and services All these translate to the cost of doing business and the cost of living in Singapore (and anywhere else in the civilised world). Nobody is spared. We all need fuel and electricity to operate, live and survive. There is only one benefactor to this complex oil and gas supply chain - and they are the oil and gas producers. The OPEC countries and NOCs (National Oil Companies) - like Pertamina, Petronas, IOL etc. Even the IOCs (Independent Oil Companies) - like Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP etc., only earn a margin from processing and upgrading crude oil into its final fuel products and chemical derivatives. The margins can go up, narrow down, or even be negative, year on year, depending on numerous factors - some controllable and others uncontrollable. LNG price is pegged to crude. And pipiped NG is pegged to HSFO. Shale gas reserves in North America is estimated on a best-endeavor basis, to probably last the next 5 years, at most 10. Similarly for other coal-seam gas and tight gas reserves are not unlimited.

Pisces69 6th Gear April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 There is always pre owned cars that can be good value for money. Looks like if the second hand car market dont do well, , can at least buy used car to tied over for those that need car. The price of 2nd hand cars is tied to the price of new cars. When new cars price increase 2nd hand cars also increase n visa versa. Otherwise who wil pay same amt for a one year old car n a new car?
Pisces69 6th Gear April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 (edited) about 1/3 on the road is 8 to 9 years Lancer, Sunny, vios, kio...etc, cost only 10 to 20k in 2nd hand market, alot of fresh graduates, restaurant waiters, China/India PRs etc can easily buy one, this is why our road so congestion Many with 7-8 yrs old cars r now just waiting for 2016 for COE price to drop then can change car. That includes me. Hahahahaha. Edited April 16, 2014 by Pisces69
Pisces69 6th Gear April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 (edited) Gahment will never take up this challenge one lah. Too much commitment and investment from them while returns are not as great as churning out digital COE numbers at almost zero cost, but raping..... ooopps reaping $70/80K a pop. Imagine COE at $70,000 each. 10 cars = $700,000 PROFIT 100 cars = $7,000,000 PROFIT 1000 cars = $70,000,000 PROFIT. So how? U think this is good money for our gharmen or not??? Pisces69 6th Gear April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 Don't know why when come to car purchase, ppl are all so generous. Paying tax, COE, AD margin. But come to petrol, can go miles across causeway to pump just to save that money. Well if I can go n buy my car in JB at their prices n use it freely in SG then I wil b driving a MY plate car. Hahahaha. And Im sure I wun b the only one. Just like all those who regular go JB to pump petrol.. Only reason is our gharmen cannot prevent us from buying 1/4 tank a go. If ty can, ty wil for sure 101%. U think our gharmen happy so many pple go JB buy petrol n groceries n shopping n entertainment. There is not much except make the cway jam like seow to deter many from going in the first place. And they r already doing that as much as possible. If here all cheap n there all expensive, I can assure u that tyhe cway wil b as clear as a whistle. No jams n smooth drive at all times day/night n maybe weekends even. I still remember long ago when we were about same prices in most things there was no jams at cway into JB n back ever. It wa as smooth as driving along the KJE during off-peak times.
