I correct my own earlier post. If your friends haven't updated their Whatsapp, you won't see the blue ticks when they read your message.

 

Sent messages with a few different parties today, some have blue ticks, some don't.

looks like whatsapp was updated today. you will notice 2 blue 'ticks' which signify the other person has read your message.

 

originally it was:

 

1 grey tick -> message successfully sent

2 grey ticks -> message successfully delivered to recipient phone (but not read)

 

now they have added 2 blue ticks to show it being marked as read.

Funny, some messages I send out I still 2 grey ticks (instead of the blue ones) and I still get reply from him, my 1st 2 message send was blue.

 

I think this is what happens, when our phone is in lock mode, we still can reply message, so during this time we get 2 grey ticks, unless the person unlock the phone and go into Whatsapp to read the message, then it will become 2 blue ticks.
