dont that make coe a failure as uber has circumvented the coe's original function? And for people to take up uber's offer of a new car must be out of their mind......unless uber allows them to give back the car if they can achieve their daily or monthly target!

COE is to limit the number of cars in Singapore - whether or not people can buy with cash or with whatever model they choose, the number of cars around is still the same.

Think uber allow to return the car regardless whether the renter achieve target or not after fulfilling the contract period.

Correct. But apparently nowadays there are more cars on the road compared to few years ago before Uber Grab. Instead of cars sitting in carparks, they are on the road regularly due to picking up passengers. This is certainly NOT car-lite. The numbers of cars are still the same, but more are prowling the road as we speak.

Maybe more cars prowling on the road is good as they are used as taxi to pick up customers. Not as private cars for own use only?! Thats why still consider car lite as people are using less of their personal car?

Our infrastructure isn't ready for car-lite.

Want to control car usage then must wait until GPS - ERP comes online.

Maybe when comfort no longer buy i40 from kmc, then kmc would sell elantra to uber?!

Thats why i am clueless about their business model especially in SG. If they hire people who is already owning a car....they will succeed....but to offer new drivers with new car and buying so many cars at once, doesnt that spells doom for any company!

Like I said, their intention is to grow market share quickly, both cars and users. Once autonomous cars are approved for use then they will graduate to that, with a huge pool of users already ready to tap and utilise their services. But for the time being they just want to have as many cars out there to serve as many people as they can.

Short term losses for long term gain.

Our COE system always got loopholes to exploit. It's not a well-thought out system IMO.

And you can give back your Uber/LCR car, after the contract is up.

Our infrastructure isn't ready for car-lite.

They've never really defined 'car-lite' IMO. Is it pure reduction of number of cars? Or simply reduction of usage? I think it has to be made clear and policies developed to suit.

Otherwise it's just bulldozing through a buzzword with no clear objective. Anyhow only.

Almost all commuters will go for the cheaper option. So when non peak they will patronize private because it is cheaper. And most taxi drivers cannot survived just on peak period so they switch to driving private.

But now there is a problem. At peak period where private fare is higher than taxi due to surge, the taxi queue is getting longer and longer due to diminished taxi drivers. So commuters end up only 2 choices. Pay a gradually increase private fare or wait longer. A peak period fare will wipe out the savings of 5 x non peak period fare so be careful.

Uber Drivers sleeping in carpark lots in USA.

http://bloom.bg/2jofLzk

5k USD per month is pretty good money for someone living in Sacramento but this kind of lifestyle can kill!

I guess it is similar to those people living in JB and working in Singapore. Either you spend hours travelling everyday or you endure sparse accommodations. The money he gets working in San Francisco is surely a lot better than what he'd be getting in Sacramento.

Nowadays very scared of these uber drivers

I slow down if I see the car in front suddenly slowing down for no reason... cos they will suddenly cut into your lane without warning

Too busy looking at their uber app to notice what's happening around them
