Hello everyone

Does Grab/Uber allow coe cars to be used?

Thinking of renewing coe for a Mitsubishi lancer that I bought recently.

The condition of the car is excellent.

It's such a waste to scrap it.

Thanks

I dont know about grab, but i know there is coe cars used for uber lo.

If you're renewing just for doing uber/grab, i would say it's not worth the risk as policies change all the time. If govt announces that only cars less than 10 years can be used, then it's checkmate for u.

May be a better idea to pick up those cars with a few years left.

If I am not wrong, cars after 10 years or renewed COE is not allowed..

I have heard some renewing but cars have to be checked. Anyway as mentioned, i do feel that it's too risky.

Let's not forget that renewed cars have almost no resale value and loan rates are higher if one is taking a loan. Not forgetting the extra road tax of extra 50% by fifth year. Think thru first bros

Thanks everyone for your prompt replies and advice.

It seems that my lancer is destined for the scrap yard.

Uber only allows cars that is less than ten years old now.

Grab may change its policy anytime too.

Uber doesn't allow COE cars if it's own car. But if through rental company then is OK, cos they will check.

Not sure about Grab but think it should be the same.

So rented car can be coe car? Own car cannot be coe car? Then who will want to rent a coe car?

People who just want cheap rental transport la. Companies like Tribecar all have renewed COE Lancer and Altis what.

For these companies Uber will work with them to inspect and make sure these cars are up to standard. For own personal car Uber cannot really keep track so they rather put the restriction to be safe.

So the uber coe cars that i see could comes from Tribecar and not from LCR lo.

took grab taxi today.

keyed in code 1010- didn't read carefully-

a small yellow exclamation appeared.

In the cab, the driver confirmed there is no promo.

Maybe the system should prompt code invalid.

Maybe i should have driven my car.

ok..vented.

LCR has some also but not a lot. Most of their used cars are from around 2008-2009 I think.

Grab said to be targeting $2b in funding led by SoftBank

TOKYO • Grab, Uber Technologies' largest rival in South-east Asia, plans to raise more than US$1.5 billion (S$2.1 billion) in a new funding round backed by SoftBank Group, people familiar with the matter said.

SoftBank is pledging about US$1 billion in the ride-sharing company, backed by Tiger Global Management and GGV Capital, the sources said, asking not to be named because the matter is private.

It was not clear whether the money was coming from the Japanese company itself or its yet-to-close SoftBank Vision Fund. Grab's financing could be a record for South-east Asia, eclipsing the US$750 million it raised in September last year, in a round - also led by SoftBank - said to give it a valuation then of more than US$3 billion.

not bad for a 60 yrs old man to think of such scam and keep his brain working   [thumbsup]    [laugh]  [laugh]

Man, 60, arrested for role in fake Grab, Uber promotional packages
Tuesday, Mar 28, 2017

If you've come across a promotional package for ride-hailing services that looks too good to be true, it's probably a scam.

A 60-year-old man was arrested last Friday (March 24) for his suspected involvement in a series of scams involving cheap 'Grab/Uber promotional packages'.

The police said on Tuesday (March 28) that they received at least nine reports last month from victims who were introduced to the promotional deals by word of mouth.

To purchase these packages, the victims were asked to contact the seller on Whatsapp, and then instructed to transfer money to bank accounts.

However, they were unable to redeem the rides after making payment. The seller also became uncontactable.

The victims were cheated of at least $7,700, the police said in a press release in February.

A person found guilty of cheating may face a jail term of up to 10 years and will also be liable to a fine.

Members of the public are advised to purchase rides only from official sources. When in doubt, they should call the anti-scam helpline at 1800-722 6688 or visit www.scamalert.sg.
