My 2015 X-Trail (less than 6 months) emit loud roaring noise few days after 10k servicing. Sent to TC and they confirmed my auto gear box damage. Anyone has this experience? My last car was a Toyota and the gearbox never had this problem for 10 years!

TC said need to wait 6 weeks for auto-gearbox to arrive. Meanwhile, my family and I have to wear earplugs to drive. Is this a normal practice to wait 6 weeks for spare parts? I ordered bicycle from overseas and the most it took 2 weeks to arrive. Any experience to share?

What is my recourse considering my X-Trail is a new car?

Thanks for your advise.

My sympathies. Surprising that TC workshop does not have spares. If i were you, i would have gotten fhe SE who sold me the car to help. 6 months old car...and demand full after sales warranty support....including courtesy car..i wouldnt drive the car before it is repaired..safety concerns

This is just so unfortunate. A damaged gear-box that is so new:(

I think you can try to reason it out with TC to get a replacement car. Shouldn't your car still be under warranty? And can they allow you to continue driving the car with a broken gear-box??

I'm sure such a big car company should have spares but it depends what item we are talking about. For a gear-box, I'm not surprised they didn't indent many spares. After all, how often do gear-boxes break down (in comparison with other parts of the car), especially when they are so new.

Actually they can take the gearbox from say, showroom car. I know some dealers will cannibalise some of the cars in their inventory to solve customer's problem quickly.

6 months old car with damage gear box? You bought a lemon?! I think you should demand a courtesy car from TC since it is still a new car and yet has major problem.

If you bang the table hard enough you should get a replacement car while waiting for gearbox to arrive as well as extended warranty on the gearbox beyond the 5 years. This should be one off. I had a colleague who had similar problem with his Cefiro within a few months of buying and they extended the warranty on gearbox by one more year beyond 3 yrs (at that time max was 3 yrs) after replacing it.

Thanks for the advice folks.

I did mention to TC about the danger of driving a faulty gearbox for 6 weeks! But they said ok to drive, very disappointed by their answer. Called the TC customer service few days later when the noise was getting worse, sounded like going to explode. The CSO said the person in charge was not working on weekends and promise to get back to me on Monday. Now already Thursday, still waiting for TC to return my call.

I think they should at least get me a replacement car while waiting for spare to arrive. They should also extend my warranty period as I no longer trust the reliability of this Nissan car. Damn regret, should have bought Toyota. Besides car reliability, I think the support not up to par too. Their service recovery was bad. Very disappointed. I was the one who convinced my wife to buy Nissan instead of Toyota.

It seems like it's a common issue around the world. Just Google and you will see the search actually helps you complete what you are looking for. It's not only in the xtrail having the cvt issue but also the qasqai. Maybe the long wait is becoz many other owners are waiting for a replacement too.

You still drive the car?? I dunno whether it will affect the torque converter and the engine if you continue driving in such condition. Or affect other parts in that matter. Check with the other local stockists maybe they have lobang to expedite the gb. At least maybe the wait is shorter.

How can I disable the safety belt warning feature that drives me nuts.

For typical, japanese car, the sensor will be under driver seat. You can trace from the seatbelt buckle, there should be a wire connect under it. Just unplug and check if there is any airbag logo light up on your meter. If not, you are safe.

A few ammo for you to put it in writing to the TC management.

ask them if they are willing to be responsible and compensate for the following:

- sudden total failure of the gear box resulting in the vehicle total lost of control at expressway speed. Medical fees as well as repair cost of the accident as a result.

- 6 weeks of daily long exposure to loud noise leading to permanent noise induced deafness. This is a permanent disability.

- other associated component failure as a result of abnormal vibrations from the GB...drive shaft failure etc

What good will this kinda threat do? Ppl can easily ignore what you wrote. If the shipment from Japan takes that long there's nothing you can do. I suggest TS nego for a rental car. If their side cannot provide dan you get on your own and see whether can claim the rental cost from them. Dun talk like ppl owe you. These are unforeseen circumstances, nobody wanted it to happen. The more you kick up a big fuss the more nobody will entertain you.

that is to nego for TC to provide a replacement/rental car  while waiting.

nobody is kicking up any fuss. no body is staging a protest infront of the showroom.

A civilised reminder to the management on potential effect of the problem that they may have overlooked in their decision making process.

TC owe  the affected owner a reasonable resolution to an unexpected problem. If you feel that they do not owe the owner, why ask to nego for rental?

If they can reply and take responsibility for whatever possible detriment that results from their in-action, have it on record.

Thanks again for the advice folks.

I am sure nobody want this to happen. I was very disappointed by TC silence in this matter. Despite calling the CSO last Saturday and today, and request to speak to someone who can make decision, nothing happen. All the promises that someone from TC will contact me does not happen too. I have no choice but to seek advise from this forum. In fact, I am very unwilling to post this in open forum. This posting will not happen if TC has done their part.

Someone from a whatsapp chat group advised me to call my SE, which I did. My SE promised to give me an answer by tomorrow. Let's see if that will happen.

My next course of action will be to seek advise from CASE.
