If I have the money I buy.

 

Why?

 

Coz no more new car for this model. You want also dun have. Have money also can't get a new one. I saw this beauty in the metal before. It's damn beautiful. One thing no good about it is the weight. The engine is very powerful. I didn't test drive this car but another with the same 2.0L turbo engine in the Opel Insignia.

 

0-100km/hr is 8.5s is modest coz of the Saab's weight. It's too heavy. LoL...

 

I wonder if this was their test drive car?

I saw the documentary on SAAB history and their downfall. Very interesting.

 

Long story short, FORD brought SAAB when they were already bleeding money. Ford told SAAB, dun waste time n money coming out new model and they were give a FORD car to "modify" to a SAAB 95 "new" model.

 

When FORD return to inspect, SAAB created a totally new 95, spending millions in the process!

 

Great car to drive n we really got to give respect to those SAAB engineers. Unfortunately, engineers dun know shit about marketing.

 

The rest is history...

Alright. You go buy this overpriced Swedish car for 168k then you see whether you still say it's okay.

 

Honestly speaking it's worth no more than 130k. You wanna say this price is unfair, be my guest. There was a Peugeot 508 which was not even a year old going for 140+k and the COE that comes with the car is 80+k. This Saab has a mere 58k COE and yet want to sell so high. If you go to any car dealer with a Saab to trade in, they will turn you down, offer to take in your car on consignment or give you a really low price for it. That's why it is a good buy second hand simply cos there is hardly any demand for it and prices are meant to be low.

 

Last year a 2 year old 9-5 was going at a mere 117k. The COE and OMV weren't too far off from this one. I think that is a pretty decent price to pay for a car which has no resale value and you'll be stuck with it until the COE is up. Oh and there was a 9-5 Vector for auction last year and the highest bid for the car was only 107k. The bank then put it up on auction again because of the low bid. This just proves that Saab cars have hardly any value.

 

To each their own I guess.

 

I reckon that a Saab driver would probably not worry about things like resale value. They're not common, for a reason.

They're not common because people don't know the brand well. If Saab knows how to market themselves like BMW and Mercedes, I'm sure people will have no issues forking out 168k for the 9-5. But one thing is for sure parts don't come by that easy. From what I know, there are only 2 specialist workshops that do Saab. One of them doesn't have a great reputation. Most people who buy Saabs will be stuck with it till the COE is up. Those who keep the car till the end of the COE must either really love the car or do not want to make huge losses by selling it to the dealer.

 

I have a slightly different perspective when buying a car. To me I want to be able to get rid of the car easily when I get sick of it or when it gives me issues.

 

If I'm buying a brand new car, the bulk of the money I'm paying must be the paper value (COE+OMV) not the profit that the dealer makes when he sells me the car. I'd say getting a car for 113k with a COE of 70k is quite reasonable once you factor in the OMV. Sure the annual depreciation is much higher with a high COE but at least when you need to get rid of it, you won't get too low a trade in value due to the high COE paid.

 

If I'm buying a used car, the first owner must have absorbed the bulk of the depreciation in order for me to consider buying it. Why buy second hand if you don't save much from buying brand new? Saabs are a good example of this. Just not this Saab. If I top up another 30+k, I can get a 2013 BMW 520 F10 or even a 2013 Mercedes E250.

if the buyer is willing to pay such money, then why not? It is a "u willing, i willing" case...

 

Same like HDB flat, do u tink it is normal to pay $800k for a small flat?

Saabs are not meant to be like BMW or Merc. They attract a certain type of driver, who aren't fussed about the issues that you deem important.

 

It's not a slight against you or anything, but like I said, to each their own. It's not a practical purchase, sure, but many people buy cars not based on practical reasons. I mean, if I have the money, I would buy an MX-5, and say sorry to all my friends who want a lift.
