Yeah, these people in that region have always been split along tribal and sectarian lines. Then along comes the colonial powers, arbitrarily draw national borders and prop up some local chieftain to be king.

Within each "state" there's a majority sect/tribe who are actually minorities in another "state". This already presents a problem.

Another greater problem is when a minority sect/tribe is in control simply because they dominate the armed forces and the govt mechanisms. Trouble waiting to happen, as these people often oppress their "others" who are actually the majority. This happened in iraq after the US left.

But this current insurgency is not as united as it seems. Already their nature is taking over, with in-fighting flaring up within the so-called ISIS grouping. And then you have all these foreigners, from europe and south east asia joining their ranks - these misguided fellows never understand that they are just to serve as cannon fodder in suicide attacks, etc. as the arabs will never be able to truly accept them.

there was this notable NYT reporter Friedman who mentioned on the eve of the 1st iraq invasion: "Either we're going to get into Iraq and find out that it is how it is because Saddam is how he is, or we're going to find out Saddam is the way he is because Iraq is the way it is."

You need a monster to hold the beast down. Just make sure its your monster.

I guess there are probably reasons why there are certain unspoken SAF manpower policies.....

http://www.valuewalk.com/2014/06/isis-5-year-territorial-expansion-plan-map/

ISIS, the radical terrorist group that has seized massive portions of Iraq and also Syria, is apparently looking to expand its territory as far as the East coast of North Africa and all the way into South East Asia, with Malaysia and Indonesia in its sights (or perhaps dreams would be a more appropriate term). This is all according to a map that has been circulating Twitter.

WTF...

Knn.
By the time they are done with their evil plans, they will go from ISIS, Islamic State(s) of Iraq and Syria, to ISISMATLESEESSSCNNMBFMWSSCJLSAYOUAETITUTAKPINXBMMSIP.

wait our Govt take over Iraqi and make them all pay GST and COE then they know! [rolleyes]

Actually, to give credit where it's due, when it comes to setting up effective, functional governance that can at least provide basic jobs, put food on the table and roof over the head - it's hard to deny that our system works well.

Perhaps the relevant agencies can team up to form a consultancy that offers such service to messed up countries in post-war scenarios? [idea]

I couldn't agree more.

These countries need to create low paying jobs for their people.

So that they have to work such long hours for low pay that they have

no time or energy to time about terrorism.

As for Air NZ could be it high pay and good working conditions?

:D

With a proven track record to be effective... [sly]

Best way of keeping population hard at work... As part of re-building effort in iraq, sell them homes at inflated prices BUT no need to pay cash; just use employee fund which is part of the salary.

Keep them employed and desiring to keep their jobs... we'll have peace in the region [laugh]

When they come, just throw pork at them. Maybe it works better than bullets..

well you can try

maybe instead trying to kill you in the first place

now you just increase their wrath and they may think

"well instead of killing you with a bullet, since you throw pork at me, maybe i kill you by slaughtering like a pig"

dont play2 with mad men ahhh
