Hi  , I think only Mercedes brand is worth the renewal as it is evident on the road.

For Japanese cars, I would recommend Honda and Toyota.

If its mercedes....

Hi agreed:-). It is a proven continental brand.

Turbocharged

Given the present dip in Cat B COE price, a few year 2008/2009 models seem to be worth considering.

The followings come to my mind:

1. Nissan Teana

2. Camry

3. C180, C200, E200.

4. Picnic.

I am wondering if price for parts replacement would be "affordable".

Camry sure can get parts and should not be costly. C and E class no problem too because there are many stockists, parts are easily available and are not expensive. The 2008 and 2009 C class w204 engines are not fuel economical, the E class W211 would have more luxury interior trim than C class and a lot better to drive and better handling. Late 2009 E class change to the W212 which also quite good. I think for merce, E class makes a better car for renewal though C class gives a younger look.

I happen to have driven e w211 , c w204 and e w212 , so i am able to provide my real ownership experience.

I intended to renewed my previous w211 but dropped the idea because the OMV write off was about $33k,plus $2k body, total write off would have been $35k. I didnt renew C 180 because of what i have mentioned. I sold it off with a body value of $3.3k above scrap price.

Some may wonder why i keep changing car, because i am cheapo, not willing to buy new car , so I am trying out which car is best to renew COE. Hahaha.

Supersonic

Avante ok to renew or not? Car still seems ok with no major issues..

If it is your car and you maintained it regularly, it shouldn't be a problem.

The SG market is very strange and complicated due to changing rules. I observed that certain models such as Honda Stream/Crossroad and Wish had their COE renewed or targeted for renewal by dealers - check the COE segment in SGcarmart and you can see which are the popular cars renewed by dealers.  There is a small value segment for sharp buyers for possibly low depreciation in >10 year old cars if they pick the right time to renew the 9 yr old cars this year as COE slide downwards. If COE reaches 25k levels, you may even be looking at under 5k yearly dep for a 2.0 litre car. Even with 10% incremental increase in tax (until 140%), for a 2 litre car, you pay an average of $448 extra over full span of 10 years (original road tax of $1,212). The guideline is that the car cc must be under 2 litre to be worthwhile. Something worthwhile to consider for budget buyers who want to continue driving without burden of huge cost for new car.
