Mazda 6 has got good looks but Ford Mondeo is more powerful car.

Ford Modeo has power of 236 hp as compared to Mazda 6 153 hp on same rpm. Cargo volume is almost same for both.

If you are looking for economic car then go for Mazda 6 it has got better mileage in city and comes at RM 30,000 cheaper than Ford Mondeo.

in singapore the difference is not so much; Mondeo is $157k whereas MZ6 Luxury R is $153k thereabout.

Cargo volume numbers may be similar, but the Mondeo hatchback boasts a much larger opening that will easily swallow a fridge, bicycles, wardrobes, etc..

Love the lift-back style of opening.. so much wider access for bulky items.

Between the new Mazda6 2.5L NA and Ford Mondeo 2.0T, I'd gladly choose the Mondeo any day.

If I were to design a car specifically to be a taxi, it'd have a liftback because of customers who go to places like IKEA or Harvey Norman... haha

Though I wonder if liftbacks will ever make a serious comeback. Wish there were more choices of liftbacks.

Just test drove the Mondeo 1.5 EcoBoost today... car handles brilliantly, very pliant over road irregularities, corners tautly, good steering feel and feedback. Cabin is very well insulated, engine is super responsive, power is very good. The salesperson told me to slow down a bit as I was hitting 100 kmh rather quickly... low speed traction and feel is good too. Only problem is the price... it's still $139,999 which pretty dear...

Of course no active safety features, no GPS still, no tire pressure monitor, no BiXenon headlamps (just LEDs) but with auto leveller.

Think can get a better price than $139,999? OMV is about $25,800.

Thinking of Mazda 6 2.0 and the new Kia Optima K5 2.0. Anyone has a spreadsheet or something to work out the total cost of ownership, including OMV, depreciation etc? Cos my mum was saying that the cost of ownership may not be very different from the new Optima due to the much higher 2.0 L road tax (about $600+ more per year).

Thanks!

Thanks bro! Helpful spreadsheet. I guess I have to do my own. Cos I want to compare cost of total ownership including all taxes, which includes road tax and insurance. I suppose 1.5 L insurance and 2.0 L insurance will be different? Or do they look at bhp now?

I tried doing a simple computation to look at total cost of ownership comparing the Mondeo versus some other 2.0 L cars... hope I got it right... do take a look at let me know if it's correct way to do it.

Ford Mondeo 1.5 EcoBoost

Price - $139,999

OMV - $25,808

ARF - $28,132

Road Tax - $6060 (10 years)

Kia Optima 2.0

Price - $125,999 (based on last known price)

OMV - $19,732

ARF - $19,732

Road Tax - $10730 (10 years)

Toyota Camry 2.0

Price - $136,999 (based on yesterday's price)

OMV - $27,591

ARF - $30,628

Road Tax - $10730 (10 years)

Mazda 6 2.0
Price - $123,999 (based on yesterday's price)

OMV - $19,752

ARF - $19,752

Road Tax - $10730 (10 years)

So taking 50% ARF based on 10 year scrap, and no CEVS for all cars (based on current car cost from LTA website):

I'll pay about $13,526 more for the Mondeo compared to the Optima or Mazda 6, but save about $422 by getting the Mondeo compared to the Camry.

The Optima is going to be launched at the Singapore Motorshow in two weeks, so I guess the price won't be low like the clearance price in Oct last year of $125,999. I remember the Optima going for almost $135,000 when new but of course the COE was also higher then. The Sonata has a significant price reduction in today's papers, so I just used that price. The Camry is of course a joke, I sat in it and it felt really really cheap, I didn't even bother to ask for a test drive. The Mondeo is still the best and still the dearest...

Been waiting for Mondeo to be correctly priced but gave up. Been monitoring the price. However COE move down, the price didnt move much. Dun look at the web site pricing for Ford. Always call SE to get the latest possible price.

It really a good car but Regent really screw up this brand.

I went down yesterday... the price is $139,999 but I haven't bargained. The interesting thing is that the Camry has a higher OMV but lower price. But I didn't compare specs lar... the Mondeo 1.5 EcoBoost has good specs but is not substantially better specced than the Mazda 6 or the Sonata or Optima actually.

Ford Mondeo is a good car, but, you need to drive until scrap,if you decide to sell at the 5th year, only can get "paper value"...+ maybe $1000 for the body.. [bigcry]

How about Opel Insignia 1.6T?  Go test drive it if you have the time.

Did some checks previously.... The reliability of insignia is quite low internationally. Quite a nice car though... 1.6L turbo.
