we must remember that the USA and Australian versions has Eyesight and lots more goodie safety functions similar to JDM, maybe even more (e.g. US version has SatNav and anti-glare mirrors). the Europeans have diesel version.

and they have higher chance of taking an SUV offroad to their Yosemite or GrandCanyon or Arches National Parks.

In Singapore? Bishan Park? East Coast Park? or maybe the grass verge at Rider's Café parking?

another possibility could be they are living in suburbs that really need to travel on dirt roads to reach their ranch/farmhouse etc.

the only farms we go to here is probably durian farms across the causeway or animal farms in PasirRis/Sungei Buloh...

so being able to travel well off-road is a true consideration for versatility for them but not really for our local context.

and in USA, c'mon gas is so freaking cheap. who the heck buying an SUV there really cares about FC?

Pple in US dont buy 2.0l SUV wan.. min 3500cc or 5000c or nothing lol

Their pickups damn scary

U see the dodge Ram pickups coming from rear also will siam

Turbocharged

the new Kuga is not in Singapore yet, the current one from Regent is aged now...

The new Kuga is a facelift of the current one. If you look at the pics the chassis is the same and the interior hasn't change much apart from the steering. Hope regent will bring in the large touchscreen hu this time instead of the tiny one on current titanium series... Edited by Pocus

Should be able to get at least $5K off the listed price if you has a car to tradein ($2K).

Ytr i rvd a msg from MI SE that they will increase $1K tmr citing COE quota reduction. Better act fast if u need new ride or COE will go up. Good luck

For those of you taking the plunge soon, any thoughts on the decrease COE quotas? Do you think the economy is weak so demand is not that high or do you expect increases in the Coe prices due to the decrease? Just wondering how you guys are predicting the movements for your upcoming purchase! Or would you say just buy it now if you comfortable with the offer?

Just buy at the price you're comfortable with... no point speculating... no one really knows... once you decided, don't look back... enjoy the car and the utility it offers...

The average person usually drives a 2.0L~2.5L car in USA. Their Honda Civics, Mazda3, etc., start from 2.0L most of the time.

The trucks there are using diesels hence the higher displacement.

Unlike us they are not taxed on displacement. And they traditionally believe in big displacement from their days of 5.2L V8 and what not.

The new Kuga is a facelift of the current one. If you look at the pics the chassis is the same and the interior hasn't change much apart from the steering. Hope regent will bring in the large touchscreen hu this time instead of the tiny one on current titanium series...

Yep. Facelift, USA has it as the Edge already. Given they brought in SYNC 3 as 8" touch screen for the cheaper Focus, I would expect Kuga would get it too.

Applies for cars with expiring coe too. MI quoted me a ridiculous paper value for trade-in, even though I still have a few more months of coe to go. I might as well drive all the way till the end and scrap it myself. Can probably get 1k+ from the scrap metal which makes up for the 2k offer from MI.

This doesn't quite make sense right? Shouldn't the car price go up only after the new coe price comes out?

i would have bought an FXT on the spot in June if only they quoted me a trade-in value for my car that matched even what BM offered me, which was a 3k diff.

IMHO, the quoted price of 122k for the FXT is very impressive.

The Altis is a very different beast, if that's your point of comparison.

Also, different companies give very different trade ins. Eg Merc / BMW offer trade ins of up to 20 or even 40k, but it's a rather different price range.. as you say, if you really like the Forester and it meets your needs, go for it  :D

u got that right!   [laugh]

but that time, i was just like u now, concerned over this & that....   :D

for your case, since u're concerned over whether it's MIJ, u should settle for FXT instead, your ride would be more fun    [drivingcar]

Different SEs in same AD may give different trade-in prices. Try another SE at different showroom. My friend was successful on that recently.

They got offer a slightly higher trade-in price, but can only get existing colour. Those not in stock and only come Nov/Dec cannot choose cause they cannot "protect" the Trade in price..... BM not yet bargain already quote higher and tell me trade in price will hold till end of year.... bit alas nothing for me in BM to buy... :TT_TT:

The 2.0l is well within my budget... not bad to drive as well.... but without the electric tailgate which I like... the rest like harmon kardon sound system, turbo, memory seat good to have but not so critical.... but just afraid like many bro, later will ask...... "WHY I DID NOT GET THE XT"... [laugh]  [:p]

I itchy backside got go test the Xtrail.... but somehow still like Forester a bit more... [:p]

Oh trade in got additional 2k, no trade in don't have, then I 100% believe MI trade in offer price must be CMI if not how to give additional 2k trade in offer.

Very different cars indeed.

But I'm not sure I can ever attach the word "beast" to an Altis.

talk about totally different car comparison

my friend considering XT against A4

total cost of ownership over 10 years may not be too different

I've been through that phase myself, testing all kinds of brands from conti to Japanese, and all types of cars from sedans to SUVs.

At the end of the day, what I found useful for myself was to be clear about I want from the car. E.g. SUV for the space, turbo engine for the power, and Japanese for the more reasonable price. Then from there, pick a car that checks all the right boxes.

Otherwise, I'll never be able to convince myself to make a decision that I can be sure I won't regret.

Indeed cost not too different, but they are after all very different cars. Cost alone may not be the best way to decide which car suits you best. Edited by Yashiro71
