Wt_know Supersonic June 7, 2015 Share June 7, 2015 (edited) guides and mountain rangers are hero ... Instead, she hailed the local mountain guides as rescue heroes.“They risked life and limb and made some difficult decisions that ultimately saved our lives. Many had homes affected in the quake. “They lost friends and family. Yet they remained with us, guiding us to safety till the very end. “They could have made it down the mountain quickly on their own with their agility. Yet they stayed and did what they could to meet our needs. They risked continuing tremors and rockfalls to refill our bottles with water from the nearest hut.” she said on Facebook. Vroomtattat 2nd Gear June 7, 2015 Share June 7, 2015 (edited) http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/more-singapore-stories/story/sabah-quake-father-dead-girl-never-wanted-her-go-the-tri Sabah quake: Father of dead Singaporean girl never wanted her to go on the trip PUBLISHED ON JUN 7, 2015 7:24 SINGAPORE - Her parents did not want her to go on the school trip to Mount Kinabalu initially, as they felt the climb was not easy and examinations were coming up in two months. But 12-year-old Peony Wee Ying Ping, who loved outdoor activities and was in the netball school team, begged and her mother relented, her father, Mr Alson Wee, 51, told Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao. Peony, a Tanjong Katong Primary School (TKPS) pupil, was among those who died when a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Mount Kinabalu in Sabah on Friday morning. Her body, accompanied by her family, will be flown back to Singapore on Sunday, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said on Saturday night. Peony's mother, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, flew to Sabah on Saturday morning. She was accompanied by her younger brother. Mr Wee said his wife had received a call from the TKPS principal, Mrs Caroline Wu, to inform her of the girl's death at 3am on Saturday. Mr Wee, who works at the Port of Singapore Authority, told Lianhe Wanbao that he stayed back in Singapore to look after their 14-year-old son and one-year-old daughter. He added that he regretted allowing Peony to go on the trip. He said he had climbed the mountain 30 years ago. "I know that the climb isn't easy and I never wanted her to go. Her exams were also coming up in two months and I didn't think she should be going overseas now," he said. But he changed his mind after considering that the children would be accompanied by their teachers. Also, he had not allowed Peony to go on a school trip to Taiwan a few years ago, and he did not want to disappoint her again. He paid $600 for the trip to Mount Kinabalu. Peony was an obedient girl who would help out at her mother's clinic in her spare time, he said. She would also take her baby sister to the playground whenever she was free. He said sadly: "When children get excited, they don't pay any heed to danger. And now she is gone." Edited June 7, 2015 by Vroomtattat

Kusje Supersonic June 7, 2015 Share June 7, 2015 Did they find additional students or did I miss some news? The maths doesn't add up. They had 8 missing students and 2 missing teachers: Dead - 5 students and 1 teacher (plus one other student who was counted as dead before that and not one of the 8 missing). Found - 1 boy? Missing: 2 students + 1 teacher. In which case, why do the latest reports say that only 1 student is missing?

They reported 8 student & 2 teacher still missing and not accounted for. Then 1 boy was rescue by the park ranger, it means 7 missing students and 2 teacher. Now if you add up together including the first deceased gal they have found. It total 8 childrens + 2 teacher total 10 sporeans.

Should be 1 student + 5 students and 1 teacher. 1 boy was found and receiving medical attention. Hence still missing 1 student + 1 teacher. Hopefully they survived.
