i accept your point but what you have shared about the insights about training sessions did also somewhat happen to other England managers so we can't conveniently put it down to Roy's inability. England have tried both English and other nationality managers to a limited degree of success even with the latter group who supposedly had more embellished track record and more European experience. what does this tells us? English players are simply not good technically or mentally to win major tournaments. they couldn't win anything even with the more recent golden era of talented players, much less with the current crop comprising mostly youngsters and lesser experienced players.

Agree agree!! And with them out of EU, which European coach wanna be England manager?

Only decent UKmanager is SAF and he is Scottish.

PS: I used the word "decent" coz he only can win the English League..

Just half-an-hour after the most abject, embarrassing and downright dismal England defeat in living memory, Roy Hodgson resigned as England manager.

He should never have been given the job in the first place.

But we told you that the day he was appointed.

And we weren't being prescient or astute.

We had plenty of previous to go on.

The day the “dignified” and “courteous” coach was given the top football job in the country we wrote: “Football fans and football analysts from around the country who say the former Reds boss was never given a chance at Liverpool FC, didn’t have to live through it.”

But here on Merseyside we were preaching to the already converted.

Hodgson lasted 191 days as Liverpool manager, from July 1 2010 to January 8, 2011.

It was 191 days too long.

Pointing out Hodgson's inadequacies as an Anfield manager was like shooting fish in a barrel.

There was the inability to connect with a fan base who wanted him to do well. Initially.

There was the “formidable” Northampton Town.

There was Paul Konchesky, Christian Poulsen and Milan Jovanovic.

There was the shocking home defeat by Wolves – and the miserable reverse at Ewood Park that ultimately signalled his departure.

But perhaps most worrying was the ability to describe a completely different scenario to the one we'd just witnessed.

Remember the Goodison derby in 2010, when Everton strolled into a decisive 2-0 lead before declaring?

Traumatised Reds fans have tried to forget it, but Roy said: “That was as good as we have played all season, and I have no qualms with the performance whatsoever. I only hope fair-minded people will see it the same way.”

Or how about: “There aren’t many quality left-backs around in the world, never mind in England – so to find an English one who can go straight into the team without any adjustment problems is a big advantage.”

Paul Konchesky was the ‘quality’ left-back who singularly failed to adjust to life at Anfield.

Or “They’ll be a formidable challenge – there’s no question about that.”

Fourth Division Northampton certainly were. They knocked Liverpool out of the League Cup at Anfield.

Then there was the spectacularly casual reference to one of the most celebrated figures in Liverpool Football Club’s history.

“We involve him in our scouting while he still works at The Academy and plays an ambassadorial role. That's what he’s good at.”

Kenny Dalglish probably was good at scouting and promoting the club, but he was even better at managing, as he proved when he took over the mess he inherited at Anfield and guided Liverpool to their last piece of silverware.

But there was much, much more.

“Everyone I know in football respects the job I’m doing here and aren’t too surprised it hasn’t been an easy start, in fact 95 per cent would have predicted it, as Mourinho did. ‘Liverpool will get worse and worse’ is what he said.”

That was a curiously self critical, self-fulfilling prophesy.

Then “We are right up there in terms of results” – at a time when the Reds had taken seven points from 18 and lay 11th in the Premier League’s form table.

Or “0-0 would have been a reasonable result for us” after Liverpool had lost at home to Wolves in one of the most characterless, passionless displays ever served up at Anfield.

Perhaps my personal favourite, though, was: “I suppose you might say it’s been topsy-turvy in the sense that having been deified, people have then started to crucify me but that’s part of the business.”

Deified? DEIFIED? Did he really say that?

Did he mean petrified? Maybe mortified? Even certified?

Well now he's being crucified – and deservedly so after the most humiliating England result for more than a half-a-century.

It's been 66 years since England were beaten by the part-timers of USA in Belo Horizonte - sixty-six – the greatest number in English football history.

Roy Hodgson can now claim the mantle of worst manager in English football history – a title which has some pretty stiff competition.

He's probably the worst in Liverpool's modern history, too.

That's an impressive double, but then we've already told you that many times before.

I can't wait for BR to be England's no 1.

He is a Yes man and the FA like their Yes men.

16/1 is really good odds.

Didn't i warn you guys about Eng-Kok not pulling the string together, thy can't accept the fact that playing for club level has higher stake than their country, no disrespect to any english players, thy must be aware the world best player like Messi can't do much for Argentina, let alone win for his country's honour. he who has won every cup, best player, FIFA Top scorer or whoever, there is nothing he can lead his country for EURO CUP. 2nd place is no place like 1st place.

Likewsie, Looney is no messiah not much leadership who can whip a wallop, Who will be the incoming new manager ? the likely person must be capable of choosing a Cpt who can lead and inspire the whole team, fight, eat, sleep and play like no tomorrow, as of now I can fathom the fact none is capable as yet, most are mercenary.  :a-confused:

Pretty obvious the answer is written on the " Wall of UK "- UKexit

Welcome to Hodge-ball, England style.

What do you do when you’re desperate for a goal and time is running out? Leave Daniel Sturridge – England’s most natural goalscorer – out of the wing, of course. Even a ten-year-old playing Football Manager wouldn’t have done that.

Daniel was the only one of our five lads in the England squad to see game time tonight, as Milner, Lallana, Henderson, and Clyne watched on glumly from the bench. Milner especially could have been used as things became increasingly desperate, but Roy waited until the 86th minute to make his final change.

Daniel couldn’t make any impact on the game, as Roy’s bizarre decision to leave Townsend back in England combined with the knock to Adam Lallana’s ankle meant we were seriously short of width and he was forced to play out wide.

On the bright side, at least the boys will all be coming home to Melwood to get stuck into Klopp’s pre-season training as soon as possible.

Roy Hodgson is the best-paid international manager in world football and the worse performing.

Well ...

Here's a joke I read on Reddit

A couple is going through a divorce and custody of the son comes into question.

The father presents evidence that the wife hits the poor boy whenever he misbehaves the slightest. The mother reveals evidence that the father would get belligerently drunk and use his belt on the boy.

The Judge suggests letting the boy live with his grandfather, but it turns out that almost everyone in this twisted family has a history of domestic violence. Not wanting to subject the poor boy to a life of physical punishment, the court decided to take a recess to brainstorm what to do with the son. The court eventually comes to a historic and unprecedented conclusion:

The boy would be in custody of the England national football team because they're incapable of beating anyone.

Who is the favorite to be the next England Football Manager?

Gareth Southgate, Hoddle, Shearer, BR or Alan Pardew?

What about Fat Sam?

Harry Rednapp said he rule himself out.

actually tiki taka is still relevant, just need to tweak a bit. It's the personnel that makes the difference. This Spain team is clearly not as good.

GK - DDG is a superb shot stopper but he doesn't seem to organise his defence well. Casiilas is a great all round keeper + he is a leader

Pique and Ramos need a Puyol type figure.

Xavi & Alonso stands head above current crop ....

Striker - no need to say. Torres & Villa is better than current crop.

Spot on!

That's why i said the Spain team that took the world by storm from 08 till 12, while didn't have any Ronaldo-Messi level superstars, had a team that was unmatched and was quite untouchable. If R-M were at 9.5 rating level, the whole Spain team was consistently 8-9. Play like that collectively, how not to win?

Now the whole team hovering around 6-7.5 only... and has been so for a while.

we watch too many  EPL games, and news/reports

hype up by local papers and media

till we are brain wash how good the English players is already

esp those born 90+

but we just look around at the top league around in Europe, how many English is actually good enough to make it outside EPL??

only a handfull in the whole of epl history.

non currently I think .

Actually I cannot think of a English player who lighted up a club or a league outside of England. Even the more successful ones like Beckham, Lineker, Ince, etc. were only ok. Many others couldn't even be in the starting line-up much: Owen, Macmanaman, Blisset, woodgate, etc. all barely played.

Maybe only Keegan and Woodcock did decently in Germany.

Day 17: 0 goal(5), 1 goal(12), 2 goals(12), 3 goals(12), 4 goals(2), 6 goals(1).

Without England, I think this thread will be quite. Q-Final start on Friday.

Those who watched every night can have a good rest now.

Any one watch last 12am game via XiaoMi andriod box and found it very laggy with lots of disruptive buffering?

I quit at half time...

The Italians were very good for the first 15 mins I managed to enjoy watching. Their formation was like there were 12 of them during defending and always equal the number of opponents during attack.

Italy Germany match going to be exciting then follow by the eventual winner against the French. Doubt Iceland can get pass the host.

The Italians are the most well organised team in this tournament. Solid defence with lightning fast counter attack always gives them a chance. The Germans will have a tough time but they are the favourites n without doubt, they seem the likely winners of the tournament from the 4 games played so far. Too bad this is not the final. In the other half, Belgium seems the outstanding team there though they need to tighten up.

Hehe Looks like you should be slightly older than me. My first full experience with football is World Cup 82. And I can vividly remembered watching Malaysia cup final in 80 too but I don't think I really know much about football at that time.

Maybe lor... or maybe i started watching soccer younger [:)]

in 82 i was already very engrossed, and was so disappointed when brazil lost to rossi... really enjoyed the team with zico, eder, socrates, junior, etc... if i think harder, maybe i can name the whole team still... couldn't believe such a balanced team (except the goalie) could have lost...

in 78 was still in pri sch so was only interested to watch but didn't know too much yet...

All the M'sia cup memory was centered around the very loud 'referee kayu' in the dolla kassim, samad, quah kim song, mohammad noh days...
