what to do! Sg phd is dime a dozen and there are also many from abroad who have their phd from their own country!

knew this couple from China and the hubby was taking phd with one of our local U. One fine day she resigned and i was told that her hubby find that he cant cope with his course anymore and decided to go back China to earn his phd as they said its much easier there. Both are already PR here!

How come Phd ppl difficult to find job? Last year, I posted about my fren who is a Phd holder also. Doing part time work and nothing related to his studies. BTW, he still looking for permanent job.

I suppose before one embarked on PhD study, one should ask the question what's next after the PhD? Is there any market value to this high level research that one is getting into?

What's the point of spending 3 to 4 yrs digging thru books, going thru tons of research papers to realise at the end the high level knowledge gained has no place on the real world

My BIL got his one last year. For him, it's just a stepping stone so that his pay grade is a certain level within the govt organisation.

While he's still doing research work, think he want to explore internal transfer between the other departments,

But he's more concerned about job security rather than going out to chuang.

(edited)

Some people study PhD as a hobby.

One of my supplier... the boss's son keep studying and studying.

After pHD cannot find job.

Father wants him to come into business and understudy his business, but son don't want.

Continue to study....

I think his son's hobby is study.

Lao peh got $$$ no problem lah, but if lao peh no $$$, how to upkeep this type of hobby? No say this type of course cheap... It's a rip off. Imagine you do phd, boh textbooks one, boh notes one. Ownself writes thesis, ownself admires. Still need to pay min 30K to get a A4 size cert.

Some people want their children to study smart smart, but their children don't want.

One rice breeds one thousand species.
