KIA Stinger GT

Otherwise great opportunity lost!

BTW, has anyone compared the Stinger vs Genesis? Seems much of the hardware are similar..

The Stinger is built on the Genesis G70 platform but it has wildly different setup and suspension components thanks to the valiant efforts of the team made of the former M-head and other headhunts (including Porsche engineers!).

The Stinger weighs more and has a slower century sprint, but is tuned in a way that has resulted in far superior handling according to reviewers.

There's a direct comparison here.

Of course there is a lot of other differences that are more obvious - designs, with the Stinger having a more A7SB like shape and a tail end that's a cross between said A7 and a Maser Ghibli (if you ask me, you can compare it to an Estima if you really wanted) - Stinger is a liftback while Genesis G70 is a more typical sedan with a shape that reminds me of C-class (indeed the Genesis G70 is much shorter C-class sized)

Then I suppose it also goes to branding, KIA is KIA whereas Genesis is kind of in limbo, very few people recognize that name here at all.

Similar approach to what Toyota uses in Japan actually i.e. many of the upper spec Toyotas such as Vellfire, Alphard, Harrier, Previa/Estima have their own logos

the korean kia logo is not so similar, the uncertain-origin K badge that people are using is somewhat different from King Long in subtle ways.

But the K in a roundel I posted is distinct from King Long in several ways and has been around for at least five years, mainly used only in Korea... it seems it hasn't seen much use since 2012.

It is interesting that over there the logos are different in some cases.

Dunno what E means here. This badge doesn't look very premium either to be honest.

From what I see majority of their line up uses the KIA logotype emblem we are familiar with.

Still I believe the Stinger would feel less polluted if it had an emblem depicting, maybe, a stylized wasp or snake or something venomous; they've done alternative emblems before.

But really, why bother? Ppl who know abt cars will know it's a Kia no matter what badge they slap over. Ppl who dun know abt cars, won't care. So malu to buy Kia meh?

I think it's because the badge is really ugly, so change for aesthetic purposes.

Not so much of malu.

Gotta remember that Kia is still undergoing the 'brand credibility' stage. Cars like the Stinger is meant to change people's perception about Kia. That's probably why the ugly Kia badge is still on it. Meant to thumb it up at the competitors.

So buy oredi dun rebadge as King Long hor. Peter Schreyer will be very upset....LOL

I agree with that. The Stinger is a Kia's halo car and probably will not sell by the bucketloads.

If cars like the Stinger, G70 and i30N changes people's perception about the brands and willingly accepts just a small $500 increase in the price of their B&B cars, then it a cool $2.5b increase in revenue for the Hyundai/Kia group.

Was reading a few of the reviews re how the Stinger's performance compares.

From a purely numbers perspective, the 3.3L is equivalent to the C-class AMG43 (List price S$320k), Audi S5 (S$315k) and better than the BMW 440i Gran Coupe (S$293k).

Pretty decent badge arbitrage if it comes in at $170k-190k.

The C43 comp is probably a problem for C&C ... Probably also the reason my C&C SE keeps telling me not to go for the 3.3L (i.e. 2.0 is enough power, 3.3L is hard to sell later etc etc).

Supercharged

Yes the KIA badge is really ugly... even the Tuscani had a different badge. Stinger should have a nice S badge...
