Think most if not all AD insurance tie ups are rip off price, until we claim.

Was insured w AIG under MB Insurance b4. Kena hit n run. Reported to polis. Brought to C&C to repair. Took 2 weeks, they gave me an E-Class as a replacement car. Felt like towkay. Repair bill was $14k. Only paid excess n my NCD not affected n subsequent year no premium loading.

I would prefer to insure with AIG, better service when shit hits the fan. They did not load my premium or reduce my NCD after I had a minor incident. In contrast, when I was forced to sign up with Toyota's appointed insurer many years back, the insurer "abandoned" me after I had an accident, fortunately I could still find an alternative.

Neutral Newbie

Does the harrier fall into the 'high risk' of being stolen across the causeway ?

I was told that if we choose other insurer, need to insert a clause to use BM appointed workshop still, else warranty may be affected. Any bros got experience on this?

If claiming against the other party. this will not be an issue with AIG as Borneo is on the approved workshop list (see below). But with lousy insurers, they will ask you to go to the workshop with the lowest quote based on their assessment. Not sure if currently still like that.

Actually BM insurer AXA is fairly good, I have been using them for years. But BM pricing for AXA insurances are expensive.

Bro, got to tell insurer that your car under warranty and need the term "any other workshop".......for mine, they quoted and also give you a reduced excess if you choose to go to BM. But if your car then fall out of warranty or repair like mechanical does not void warranty. You may go to their approved WS and pay lower excess. My previous ride had one when someone hit me from the side rear and I was give ST workshop which I then think was quite ok cos it does not void warranty and the warranty ending.

In case of my current, should anything happen as my ride is brand new, I might have to choose to pay the full excess and go back to BM then.

Actually BM also quite lenient if it comes to mechanical issues. rather than anything also tell you they void the warranty.

Bookings into next year already?

i feel that this turbo harrier will be more of a competition with the upcoming honda CRV and CX 5 which all will be launching in july or Aug, rather than the dated XT.

Crv and cx5 cant fight. Different output altogether.

Hi,

Anybody know if synthetic leather is a lot hotter than genuine leather e.g. when you are sitting on it on a hot day plus no seat aircon?

The standard version is Ultra-Suede centre (where your bum and back will be) and with synthetic leather along the sides (maybe your thigh might touch it and also the sides of your back).

So maybe I should ask if Ultra-Suede is hot...it's actually developed by Toray Industries Japan for use in automotive and other applications

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrasuede

See the wikipedia article on Ultrasuede...it is actually brother/sister to the famous Alcantara used in many European cars...similar technology...just that Alcantara got much more brand recognition.

What about the std "fabric" seats on PI Harrier? Are they hot or OK in normal use?

Sorry I'm basically wondering if I should go for the Luxury or the std/Premium.

Thanks!

Luxury version has a/c seats (must get if a model offers it), memory seats (must get if more than 1 person drives it often), softer nappa leather and extra 2 yrs warranty. OMV higher by $2k iirc.

Whether worth the extra $7k depends one one's preference on these extra features. I would definitely go for it as these cannot do aftermarket.

See this post:
https://paultan.org/2017/02/24/toyota-vellfire-is-malaysias-most-frequently-stolen-car/

Looks like most stolen is cars that are common in Malaysia.

For the Singapore cars that get stolen the question is whether they took sufficient steps to secure their car and also where they parked plays a part.  Usually a steering lock can be a useful deterrent if you park in a busy place. But if really they want your car, nothing will stop them...but less likely than models that are actually sold in Malaysia...in which case they can easily be sold and stripped for spares.  So maybe Harrier Turbo stripped to support NX200t in Malaysia?  or body parts for some Harrier 2.0 NA that were PI into Malaysia?

Does the harrier fall into the 'high risk' of being stolen across the causeway ?

Really? SE say?

So they price including new VES? should be at least +10k right?

Bookings into next year already?

The engine is certainly capable of going beyond that, but I also notice on brochure it's stated top speed only 180km/h. Does anyone know if this is really true? If yes that would mean it's probably electronically capped at 180..

There are many types of steering wheel locks.   There are those that locks the steering to the pedal; club type; and those that locks the steering wheel to the dashboard.

So, which type is better?

Forgot to ask my SE about this, but does the new Harrier comes with immobilisers?  And would it help?

What about wheel nut locks to prevent wheels from stolen?  Are they good to prevent wheels from stolen?

Thanks

Yup. I've noticed that too. Both the Harrier (and CX5) seem to have a cap at 180km/h, while the Forester lists theirs at 220km/h. Not that we're  going to come close to any of those speeds anyway.

Those steering locks that locks the brake pedal is very convenient but they are not so visible so may not deter all car thieves until they have broken your window or entered your vehicle. A steering lock is very visible but more inconvenient to use.

Having seen a video of how fast the thieves open a Honda, I think anything electronic can be cracked by them. Of course a steering lock is also not a 100% deterrent to a very determined car thief.
