Mercury1 Turbocharged December 26, 2018 Share December 26, 2018 The cyclist turning right can enter the right lane I think, but this cyclist is reckless, don't signal, don't follow traffic rules. He expect us to read his mind and get pissed off when no one know wtf he is doing. (That said the cam car should have undertook him from the right) Then best go and block traffic as and when he likes, I imagine is someone rear ended the cam car or yellow box was blocked holding up 10's of other cars on the main road the cyclist will feel it's okay cause he was aggrieved and probably just cycle away. If a car was a weapon and the driver swapped his car for a gun at that instance would these guys still be trying to annoy them in said fashion hrmm Asians are usually more tolerant I can see alot of expats like these take advantage (not the ones who follow the law of course), in the US / London they would probably fight on the street especially using a bicycle to block all the traffic or just get chased down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ba6A3WB89tA In the top video, the cyclist think he had all the right to cycle on the right lane as he was about to turn right in the next junction. This is a problem created by the authority as the authority clarify whether cyclist turning right should cycle on the left lane and use the pedestrian crossing to cross the junction or they're allow to cycle on the right lane to turn right. ↡ Advertisement

Guest Neutral Newbie December 26, 2018 Share December 26, 2018 (edited) Reading some of the comments on the video, it is really disheartening to see some people blatantly cheering for the lorry driver or exclaiming that they would've done the same or worse... No doubt the rider's behavior was uncalled for and certainly deserves to be punished for breaking the lorry's side mirror. Also, none of us really know what is the state of mind of the lorry driver, so no one can really judge who was wrong or right here. As a cyclist myself, I usually ride single file, unless in a really huge group upwards of 10. But even with 2-3 cyclists, sometimes it also requires me to ride abreast the lane in a two lane road due to circumstances, such as split roads up ahead, or assisting a weaker cyclist. I'm sure many motorists are familiar with the Dunearn Rd exit on PIE (Tuas), and even if you're a lane 3 or 4 driver, you will have to filter to lane 1, road hog a little bit just to make it to the exit. Same goes for cycling, except firstly we try to plan around these situations so we do not encounter them (riding midnight or early morning, avoiding these roads etc.), or we try to be as gracious as possible and get out of that situation ASAP. Of course, life does not always go as planned and you just have to 'harden your scalp' like the Chinese saying, and deal with the uncertain. As a driver, I understand the frustration of getting stuck behind cyclists in a congested road, driving 20-30 km/h. But if you look at the broader picture, overtaking the cyclist takes only a few seconds to 2 minutes tops even if you're a lousy driver. Compared to your half hour journey perhaps, the inconvenience is really negligible. And it is really a life we are talking about here, imagine these people to be your relatives or even your kids in the future. After all, my first post on MCF is not out to take sides on the lorry and cyclist saga. Nobody can really fully comprehend the situation others are in and why they do certain things. But above are just some examples, and hopefully more motorists can be gracious about the situation, and not let the actions of a few bad cyclists lead to prejudice of others innocent ones. Motorists and cyclists both can practice gracefulness and be patient to each other. Peace I give you a 5 points dislike as I thing the cyclist you want to defend got nothing good to mention, your friend? SuPerBoRed Twincharged December 26, 2018 Share December 26, 2018 Based on these three facts, I feel that as drivers, we can afford to give way. Surely it doesn’t take more than a few seconds to overtake? i can give way to cyclists... but this guy was insisting on his right of way when he could be more considerate and just move behind his friend. And he started it!!! i am not gonna say 100% that i can still bottle it if it happened to me.

Nzy Twincharged December 26, 2018 Share December 26, 2018 (edited) It's a fact that the roadie is an aggressor, having thrown the first punch. It's yet to be proven that the lorry driver intentionally swerved to hit the roadie. It could be an instinctive swerve due to shock. Yeah. Could be. He probably had the same train of thoughts. That's why his instinctive reaction was about 2s when a usual human reaction time is 0.3s. However, can the cyclist also claim instinctive reaction when he felt something coming up very near him to swing his arm out to shield himself? This is a problem created by the authority as the authority clarify whether cyclist turning right should cycle on the left lane and use the pedestrian crossing to cross the junction or they're allow to cycle on the right lane to turn right. It has been clarified many times. The cyclists have to cycle as left as possible. So when going straight, cyclist cycle on the left most lane that allows them to go straight. If turning right, cycle on the left most lane that allows them to turn right. However, they can also choose to use the pedestrian crossing.

Nzy Twincharged December 26, 2018 Share December 26, 2018 the crux of the issue is who started it. Cyclist also controlling something that can kill.... i recall a case of a delivery guy killing an old pedestrian. i also can say if the same cyclist riding on the pavement with an old uncle slowly walking on the road infront of him.. he will throw his water bottle at him also and eventually kill him. There is no point in talking about hypothetical situation...cyclist hit lorry.. .lorry driver reacted ... lorry driver more at fault becoz he reacted when he driving a lorry that can kill? If i follow your train of thought... the lorry driver will not have reacted that way if that guy never hit his lorry in the first place right? According to the lorry driver... he claims that he thought he hit the cab on the right and hence swerved left... i rather give him the benefit of the doubt then to bother defending a guy who started it all I feel both lorry driver and cyclist doesn't need defending. Look at the comments when a car swerves instinctively to avoid an accident but causes another accident instead. People start commenting the car shouldn't swerve and all that. Now a lorry driver swerved and hit a cyclist and everyone feels its right that he does it out of instinct.
Kopites Supersonic December 26, 2018 Share December 26, 2018 you talk so much .. i just ask you... how difficult was it for the cyclist to move behind his friend and let the lorry pass? its about being considerate for the rest of the road users... dont expect people to treat you graciously if you dont treat others the same way ... That is why I too condemn this idiot piggy cyclist with brain shaped like cashew nut. Consequences of him hitting the side mirror might result in accident to other innocent road user. They just moved off from traff8c junction. It might cause chain accidents if swerve to the right or lorry e break.

LTA has clarified already. Btw, most people online seems to want cyclists to dismount when crossing and I used to dismount all the time in the past before LTA allowed people to ride across. However, there have been a few occasions when drivers honked or showed their displeasure when i dismounted and pushed my bicycle across instead of quickly riding across. Othello Supersonic December 26, 2018 Share December 26, 2018 Did he really stop the lorry from overtaking? Or was he hinting to the lorry that he should change lanes to overtake instead of squeezing past? I don't see the cyclist swinging to the next lane to ensure the lorry cannot overtake. I'm sure if the lorry just switched lanes just like the cam car, he would have been infront of the cyclists in seconds. change lanes to overtake ?? so now you cyclists want more than 1.5m ? you want the whole lane to yourselves ? I thought (since you always like to bring up the Act) that cyclists are supposed to keep to the left as possible ? Its only one van. After the van are many other vehicles leh ....
