On the outside, the Singapore Police Force’s new fast response car has all the bells and whistles of a sophisticated, smart vehicle: A remote-controlled searchlight on the roof, sensors under the side view mirrors, and cameras on the front, sides and back.

The hard surfaces are curved to make space for suspects in handcuffs, and easy to clean for an uncooperative few who might vomit or sweat a lot. 🤣

Wow.. So now those suspects will have a harder time to escape.. Number plate recognition.. Got search light somemore.. Imagine this police car come across this dark area and then saw this car parked over there. Then this police car shine search light over at that car and caught them hanky panky..

Why dont they buy a Single Cab or Dyna type of lorry to retrofit?

Much more spacious and able to haul more criminals at one go too.

Not like the Tuscon is very spacious or powerful too.

And it isnt cheap.

Dyna type of lorry cannot go fast + it is inherently unstable.

Only double cab pickup are freaking fast.

On paper the torque may be impressive but the century sprint will be >= 10 seconds due to its weight and braking/handling is worse due to pickup design. It might increase the risk of accidents for our spf drivers.

I once rented a similar Hilux pickup back in 2019 in Thailand. 450n/m on tap means acceleration was good but couldn't clock faster than 10 sec for century sprint. Also being a pickup, understeer was severe when trying to corner above 70km/h on countryside road.

I drive my friend Mitsubishi Triton & Ford Ranger regularly.

In term of braking, need to get used to the weight and braking distance.

In term of handling, I don’t feel what you said. In fact, I was doing 80-100km/h going up Cameron.

Maybe next generation IU, police might be able to retrieve that car IU information from a distance away.

Same way how the ERP gantries can read the IU numbers ; yes it may give multiple numbers of cars in vicinity just like Bluetooth searching

This Tucson is reportedly the 2.0... not as fast as the 1.6 turbo...

So the fast-response vehicle is not v fast 😅

but help to save taxpayers' money a bit... 😁
