one year later .... this thread is still continuing about him and his case.

High Court dismisses appeal of drink driver who killed one after treating Tampines road like racetrack.

Quote

And in the case of Jeremiah Ng En You, 36,

who killed one person and injured six others in December 2021

, the heaviest punishment for him will be the lifelong burden of knowing that his irresponsible and selfish action of drink driving claimed an innocent life, it added.

hmmmmmm ...... <scratch head>

Quote

The court noted that while he had shown remorse by making voluntary compensation of about $457,000, such efforts were outweighed by the harm caused by the accident.

oh ... now i know .... remorse can be bought and paid for !

@Lala81 what i meant was if he really had remorse, he would not have had the audacity to appeal his sentence .... 7 years for one life is too light !

if really accident, still can understand ... but it was something he did deliberately. Bet he will be cussing in jail rather than consider it a "lifelong burden of knowing that his irresponsible and selfish action of drink driving claimed an innocent life"

$400+k can't even buy a 4 room HDB and that's shared by so many victims. The compensation is done in the hope that the court will reduce his sentence, not because he was remorseful lah. There is a stark difference.

Ok lah.

Whether got real remorse or fake remorse, no one will want to squat more time in jail lah.

The defendant's lawyer is doing his/her job for the client. The judge is doing his/her job based on the case.
That's why there is a process of appeal. Fail already then go in lor.

haha then he need to do what? perform seppuku to take responsibility?

Not that I'm defending the guy, just saying after that mega reckless/irresponsible act, anything u do also will look bad.

The family/perpetrator/lawyer is just doing what they can in a losing situation lor.

Don't forget the judge is also a salaryman. He can only sentence based on what's allowed in the laws. Also must at least give some politically correct statements for newspapers to publish as justification.

As for whether this is real justice for the victims you know I know lah sigh.

This is like telling the family of the deceased - don't worry the killer of your son/husband/father already jail few years ok lah not bad already you should feel better now right?
