"How do I gain access to the app?

You may download the app 'RedeemSG Merchant' on Apple App Store or Google Play Store. A CDC Ambassador will get in touch with you for the sign up and onboarding. Training will be provided during the onboarding process, and you will be provided with your unique shop code to access the app.

How do I get my shop code?

You will receive your shop code from the CDC Ambassador during your onboarding session. It will also be sent to you via SMS to your registered mobile number.

Can I share my RedeemSG Merchant account with my staff? How do they login to the app?

Your staff can download the RedeemSG Merchant app using their own device, and log-in using the same shop code that was issued to you by the CDC Ambassador or sent to you via SMS. Please get all your staff to download the app and login via your Shop Code to ensure that customers can redeem their vouchers with your staff even if you are not at the stall."

I have always wondered why gov chose to give vouchers to everyone in such an inflationary environment. To me it does not make sense as it just drives unnecessary inflation and is a waste of resource setting up the voucher system.

Why don't they just give cash, Aka bank credits to the needy people like they have done it the past? So much more efficient. You can choose to save the money if you don't have to spend. by giving vouchers, people tend to just spend it straight away in case they forget about it.

To me, that scheme is a waste of taxpayers money as it is not targeted and worse it drives up inflation...

The funniest thing about the article is that the gov benchmark the success of the scheme by the percentage of people who claimed the vouchers... duh... you give money and a lot of people claim, you say it is a job well done???? shouldn't they actually see if the money is well spent or is there a better way to spend those money instead of giving me $300 which I don't really need. I just have to go and spend it somehow.

Vouchers are much better than cash.

For voucher, can exchange needy foods from participating supermarkets which can last for days.

For cash, some will go to Singapore Pool counters and punt away the cash. If strike, it will be windfall for them but if not, the cash gone just like that.

eh... the vouchers are there to limit what you can spend on. They dont want you to spend on a bag or watch but rather on the necessities. It is also targeted at local small business so that people are more willing to engage them with the vouchers. win win. What i dont agree is they issue to all household. i rather they give the lower income group only with a bigger share. Better well off families dont need that $300.

it does not work that way right? If they want to buy the bag, they will still use the $300 saved from groceries to but the bag...

that's the point. Even though I don't NEED the $300, I will still spend it... just because it is there. I think most people will do that, no?

I thought this voucher thing was something during the Covid where we need to encourage spending. But now inflation is crazy so why is the gov still doing this???

You said it. If give cash, some people might save it away, but the main purpose is to spur the economy by asking people to spend. Inflation already hit in and people tend to spend less and thus affecting the economy, and thus affecting the growth, and thus affecting the ministers' KPI, and thus affecting their bonuses .........

Inflation high and prices up fast

Common folks (not elite with econs degree like those here in MCF) want to see govt directly helping them with some gesture to feel loved

I see liao, really don't know want to laugh or want to cry.

Want to laugh is again, ppl living in their own world, thinking inside their own zone, assuming everyone is like them and so all solutions should be targeted at problems of theirs.

Want to cry is, I see the wasted resources and time spend in the production of a gifted program. And if this gifted products run a system,  I think I will have to cry myself to my death.

I wrote a longer reply on why vouchers over cash, why a need to circulate these monies, in addition to what is the cause of inflation here, and then deleted it, because I feel so stupid having to write simple logics.

Hell,  I am going to offer prayer to my ancestors after I post this, to thanks them for making me and my children stupid enough to not be in a gifted program. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Exactly. I think the only reason for the voucher vs cash credit into bank account is that it is more in your face. The added friction of spending vouchers vs cash, gives the brownie points to the gov. I think most people will not even notice a $300 bank credit.

politics aside, the measure is really inflationary in a time when we are trying to fight inflation.
