It's worse when there's heavy traffic. So the guy in front refuse to move bcuz he wants to turn right. The cars behind try to filter out, but no chance, bcuz the left is constantly moving. Then he got no choice but to wait. Then now the straight going turns red, and turn right goes green. Of cuz, he's going to stop there bcuz he wants to go straight, and the cars behind want to turn right cannot, Must wait until next green.

What a stupid way to design traffic junction.

The design doesn’t take into account Selfish Drivers.

Why get into these lane when you are going straight?

Yes you're right, LTA is really made up of idiots with no common sense. The right turn arrow should be installed at big junctions with blind spots and obscured views due to whatever reason.

Instead they install the red turn arrows at every tom dick and harry junction, like the small junctions you mentioned. Those junctions have no blind spots with clear view of oncoming traffic, what are the red turn arrows for? :D

Because many here also die die want all right turns to be controlled mah. LTA listens to them.

Who? Please kee chiu!

We have seen too many incompetent/inpatient drivers.

It is better to be controlled.

Otherwise, our insurance premiums will increase.

Most of the time, it is a CBK issue.

It has nothing to do LTA.

The easy way out is to remove these lanes.

Cannot say nothing to do with LTA. Traffic lights timing can affect the flow of traffic at the junction greatly, even add 10 sec or reduce 10 sec can see the big difference.

I agreed on this fully. But too bad LTA don't find this is a problem at all. Maybe they blame it is driver problem, nothing got to do with such traffic junction design. 😂

It doesn’t matter if drivers fast hand fast leg.

1. Count total number of accidents.

2. Count total number of drivers making discretionary turns every day at every junction.

Divide 1 by 2.

This is your answer. You think drivers here so bad then insurance should actually be much higher than it is, and everyone who has been driving more than a few yrs should have been in multiple accidents in their long driving history. But that is not the case (I have only been in one accident in my whole life, my father got bang from behind when I was 13 or 14 - and I've been driving since 1997)

The left lane is also turn left/go straight. There are only 2 lanes, so you have to choose which one you want to go straight.

Then there's the pedestrian crossing on the left. So they have to give way to pedestrian. Some pedestrian timing is so long, by the time you want to go straight, it's already red.

I drove in JB, well long time ago. They are mostly all green at the same time, left, straight, right; so no one gets caught trying to go straight, when those in front turning have to stop. So JB authorities is smarter than LTA ? I think so.

Near my place one junction very often they suka suka change the right turn timing. Everytime I get stuck for 3 red arrow, I call them immediately to complain and tell them I complain before, they rectified it, why they suka suka change to make it worse. Usually it gets sorted within a day or 2.

IMHO.
The number of lanes going straight has been reduced.   E.g.  used to be 3 lanes,  one turn right, one go straight/turn right and one go straight becomes only one go straight.  Major roads are not spared either, used to be 3 lanes going straight, now become 2 lanes.

I think this arose because of the accident at Jalan Anak Bukit and Jalan Jurong Kechil quite sometime back.

People asked for it.

Some 4 lanes comverted to 2 right turn lanes and left lane converted to bus lane. Left only 1 lane for going straight on a major arterial road! Scholar logic power sia

This must have been one of the best example of poorly designed junction and lane markings.

Screenshot_20240207_213946_Maps.thumb.jpg.e6651a1cc0f31e0cc2e20f7f5019af79.jpg

During morning rush: most traffic is going to turn left towards lornie highway. The traffic light signal is designed such that when left turn arrow is green, the go straight arrow is red.

You just need one car going straight on 2nd lane (go straight or left turn) and you will get a back up cars wanting to turn left stuck behind that car and many will try to change lane to the moving 3rd lane.. Often times taking huge risk and depending very much on the other cars slowing down just to give way to them.

During non-peak hours like weekend, most cars will turn right towards upper thomson road... And since there is only 1 right turn lane (1st lane), the queue form up all the way back to the junction before.... Many will try to jump queue by taking the 2nd lane and making an illegal right turn endangering others.

Simple, the go straight ones KNN first, then the right turn ones KNN. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

I don't know the reason, but it used to be the turn right arrow will go green when the go straight is green, so go straight and turn right move together. Now is turn right arrow will appear only after the go straight turn red, and after turn right arrow gone then the green light for cross traffic comes on.

Maybe LTA wanted to follow Malaysia or some countries. [laugh][laugh][laugh]
