Got the sealion 7 at pre launch. It's an attractive offer considering the alternatives and met most of my expectations. Design, ventilated seats, nappa leather and value. The Dynaudio sound system is pretty good. The $12k Coe spike was a bonus too. Usually the dealer will price to sell for new car launches. Heard more than 100 sold at pre launch.

While the interior is premium, the plastic inner boot cover cladding could be made padded. The different front and rear tires sizes will impair tire rotation. Will likely change them out to the same size when they are worn out.

The closest alternatives are

Xpeng G6 - pricier, no glove box

Zeekr 7x - road tax too high for single motor at 310kw

Didn't consider the rest as didn't meet my expectations.

Congrats...do you know what this is for?🤔

Doesn't seem to lock at any seatbelt position of the front passenger seat

Congrates! Ho much did you pay and for which variant? So you were not asked to top up the COE? When you collecting your ride?

Pre launched price was $193k+with guaranteed Coe. The first batch was sold out by buyers who probably didn't even see or test drive the car. I don't think any dealer will risk its reputation by asking ppl to top up COE for new car launch 🙂

It's true BYD has transformed itself radically and is the most profitable Chinese EV by a huge margin while some are struggling to stay afloat. I would never have considered BYD 5 years ago. This is also their first 11kw capable vehicle in our market.

I also noticed this trend of fancy DRL design and startup display with EV. We know you got big battery but I think this is getting a bit too loud and distracting at best.

Looks like solar panel prices...😄

The crazy thing is, there are experts predicting the price of battery cells will drop to $10/kWhr in the next 10 years by China EV and Battery Co. If Opex, DD&A, profit, cell to pack stabilize around $10/kWhr - looking at $20/kWhr at the pack level. Which means the highest component cost of an EV will drop to high single digit or low double digit at worst case. I don't see how ICE dinosaur vehicle manufacturers are going to compete with this.

Really curious how many units were sold prior to this COE exercise. And whether the AD asked these buyers to top up or not.

250

From Motor show videos, seems this Sealion 7 is launched during the show at 209k, quite diff from 193k before latest COE exercise. Now here all diam diam already. Hopefully those who pre-booked eventually get it at 193k without being asked to top up.

193k is guaranteed coe so sure will get COE.

Conservatively, maximum 15% in 5 years.

Yes.

It does not mean that by 10 years the degradation will be double

Was at BYD showroom checking out the Sealion yesterday.  SE said those who booked at $193k about 95% secured COE.  She also advised scrap value for Sealion is $3k only.  Much lower compared to ICE, is it due to the upfront rebate given for EV?

almost all EVs are like that. Yes to the rebate. So the depreciation is pretty straightforward, just purchase price divide by 10 years.

If OMV is $38k, ARF should be $45k.  After VES A1 rebate + EEAI, ARF should be $5k.

If one takes loan, in my opinion, should consider the interests incurred.

If pay full cash, like most of us do 😂, we need to add $6k to the published price.

100% upfront rental and can prorate to the day of use.

only extra is the additional 10% road tax each year till year15.

I thought a good question is whether the additional 10% road tax surcharge each year till year 15 ought to apply to EVs.

I recall clearly that that the official explanation published was that older vehicles pollute more, so encourage scrap by 10 years by having the surcharge. I suppose that's kind of factual 10-20yrs ago with progressively tightening euro  emissions standards during that time. But EVs now have no emissions per se (emissions are from power stations), and so emissions don't get worse with EV's age.

Interesting to hear what the eventual official line on this is, and if the considerations and explanation on road tax surcharges will change.

Will it make sense to take loan then redeem after taking the 6k discount?
