Holy! Its just roughly SGD$30400 up north but with high CAT A COE so for Singapore is selling at SGD$152388.

I wish BYD adopt the Battery as a Service (BaaS) model that Nio has. This would significantly reduce the upfront costs of having the expensive high voltage battery pack as a monthly service charge and reduce OMV by around 1/3rd - particularly for B&B rides such as the Atto 2. 

The battery swap stations would also make life more convenient, comfortable, easier and super simple to owners in having an almost fully charged battery under five minutes. There is no DC fast charger in Singapore that can match this speed or turn around time. As an added bonus, don't need to get out, break some sweat while fiddling with cables and/or figure which app on the mobile device to use. Everything is done with air conditioned comfort inside the ride, while the fully automated system swaps out the high voltage battery pack. Just acknowledge a few prompts on the infotainment screen.

It also removes any range anxiety due to the small battery pack (51. kWhr) and short WLTP range (345 kms) that Atto 2 has. 

It would also reduce the annual insurance premium as the most expensive component of the ride can be easily replaced - even with a minor prang.

Ya, sad but true, in SG, only money talks, anything else is bulls**t. 

Most of our local car reviews are very short (10-15mins), shallow, and overbearingly talks about the good thing about the car/introduces the features like reading off a car sales brochure.

Malaysia's motor journalism is light years ahead of ours. In SG, the nearest one we can get to those Malaysian car reviewers is the Malay dude in Car Life Singapore channel in youtube.

Perhaps our market is too small, perhaps due to market dynamics... it's clear there is little to no incentive for anyone in SG to do a proper car review.

Most of them are merely reading off the marketing brochure and showing u features like a salesman. Count yourself lucky when sometimes you find some added bonus of the reviewer throwing in their personal opinion on the car/feature.

I think the biggest hurdle to this is industry collaboration. If everyone can agree on a standard, then the investment would be worth it. 

I honestly don't know how Nio can be profitable by running this kind of business model without getting some of the big boys on board.

The logistics to distribute, store, charge so many car batteries, maintain and lease multiple locations all over the country (any country), for this kind of battery swap service is simply mind boggling. These costs need to go somewhere...Either the battery will swap service will be very expensive or the cars will be.

@Rickster According to Mr. Google, Nio has signed agreements with a number of Chinese auto makers. These include:

1. Changan Automobile: Signed a strategic cooperation agreement in November 2023 to develop swappable battery standards and expand the network.

2. Geely Holding Group: Partnered with Nio in late 2023 to promote battery-swapping technology and industry standards.

3. Chery Automobile: Signed an agreement in January 2024 to jointly build and share battery swap stations. 

4. JAC Group: Expanded its historical partnership with Nio in January 2024 to include developing battery swap standards and sharing the network.

5. GAC Group: Formed a strategic partnership in May 2024 to standardize battery and swapping technology, share networks, and collaborate on battery asset management.

6. FAW Group: Confirmed a battery-swapping partnership in May 2024. 

7. Lotus Technology: The EV company signed an agreement with Nio in April 2024 to share charging and battery-swapping resources in China.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL). As a major battery supplier in China, CATL has signed a strategic partnership with Nio in March 2025. The collaboration involves building a battery-swapping network, unifying technical standards, and investment from CATL into Nio Power.

The question is when will BYD and Nio get together?

This one from Paul Tan Automotive News over the causeway is pretty good. Has both the good and bad points on the Atto 2.

But you're right that here in Singapore, the car reviews are more geared towards the sales and marketing hype - which is what the ADs want. I'm guessing that most Singaporeans are okay with it as they don't mind paying the ADs fat sales margins.
