  1. A Singapore Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration 9V-SKH performing flight SQ-308 from Singapore (Singapore) to London Heathrow,EN (UK), was enroute about 90 minutes into the flight at around 02:30Z, breakfast was just being served, when the aircraft encountered severe clear air turbulence resulting in an altitude deviation of about 100 feet and all loose items becoming airborne. The aircraft continued the flight to London for a safe landing about 13 hours after departure. 7 people received minor injuries during the turbulence encounter. The aircraft was unable to perform the return flight SQ-319 on time and departed for the return as flight SQ-319D the following day about 28 hours after landing. 2. Testament to how advanced safety systems in modern cars are and you really do get what you pay for. For a 300km/h crash, the car held up pretty well. Hope everyone recovers: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=679088 This 2012 M5 was traveling at a top speed (approximately 186mph/300kmh) when the driver lost control of the car as he braked and swerved to avoid a car. As the driver of the M5 swerved to avoid a car which joined the highway aggressively (without noticing the oncoming BMW), the M5 struck the divider, bounced off and shot across the highway, where it flipped several times on the grass at the side of the A81. The 60 year old driver, 20 year old passenger, and a dog were all seriously injured, but are alive. Judging by the severity of the damage to the car, it's a testament to the M5's safety technology that no one was instantly killed. The car which cut off the M5 did not stop and fled the scene of the accident. The M6 and M3 on the scene belong to the M5 owner's sons, who were traveling with the M5 at the time of the accident. One of the sons, seeing smoke coming from the M5's engine after the crash, was able to prevent any more danger by using an extinguisher on the engine. It's easy to forget sometimes just how much power our BMWs have and while they are some of the safest cars in the world, we are all still human, capable of suffering injuries and making driving mistakes (or simply suffering bad luck). So please be safe out there!

  4. http://business.asiaone.com/news/chinas-economy-faces-severe-times-year-premier-li Thursday, Jan 23, 2014 BEIJING - China's economy faces a severe time this year and the government will be watching trends closely to ensure stable growth, Premier Li Keqiang was quoted by state radio as saying on Thursday. "The situation that we face in 2014 remains severe," Li was quoted as saying. He did not elaborate. Li was quoted separately by the government's website as saying that officials will strive to keep consumer prices stable. Data this week showed China's economy grew 7.7 per cent in 2013, narrowly missing market forecasts for growth to slide to a 14-year trough of 7.6 per cent.
  5. Mr Mah failed to act on academic's advice to control HDB prices in 2009 For the whole of 2009, the housing tsar insisted that the prices are affordable and there is no bubble. Finally, 1 year after the NTU academic's warnings. Mr Mah finally acknowledges there is a imbalance in the market
  6. HK labour unions slam minimum wage as too low Hong Kong yesterday set the city's first minimum wage at HK$28 (S$4.54) an hour, angering labour groups which criticised it as too low to make ends meet in the glitzy financial hub. The government is aiming to usher in the base wage from next May - lower than the HK$33 demanded by labour activists. The densely populated city of seven million is also home to hundreds of thousands of workers who live on hourly wages sometimes as low as HK$15 ah hour. Concern about Hong Kong's growing income gap - which the UN Development Programme last year pegged as the world's biggest among wealthy economies - prompted the government to introduce the wage floor. - AFP taken off the new paper 111110 our govt has always said that minimum wage will induce unemployment, now HK unions are pressing for a higher minimum wage soon HK economy will crumble and will trigger yet another ression! OMG!
  7. This interesting article is post by Dr AEHaas from BITOG. Somehow I missed this paper presented at the Powertrain and Fluid Conference of Oct. 2005: Evaluation of SAE 0W20 and 5W20 GF-4 Prototype Formulations in Severe Taxi Fleet Service, Amanda Damen, Petro-Canada, Nigel Broom and Rolfe Hartley, Infineum USA LP, and Michael Riley, Ford Motor Co. My review: The Las Vegas taxi service is considered the most severe for testing high temperature fluids. Four taxis were run with 0W20 and 4 with 5W-20 test oils for 100,000 miles each with a test oil having only 0.05% phosphorus. This is to test the newer GF-5 pending specification. All engines were then broken down and tested for wear. Oil testing was done at 5k and at 10k miles. Each oil was specified to run only 3k miles by Ford under these
  8. Hi all experts in here..need some help. Just happened to browse through my Daewoo Nubira's manual and found this interesting paragraph regarding Oil change: The service interval is stated as "Change every 10,000km or 6 months, but, every 5,000km or 3 months under Servere Condtions." It explains Servere Condition as: - When most trips are less than 6km - When most trips include extendedidling and/or frequent low speen operation in stop-and-go traffic. - When operating and dusty areas. It seems to be that in Singapore city driving can be considered "Severe" cos most trips i make is really less than 6km and as i work in Tuas Industrial area every morning got many traffic lights and i'm surrounded by buses and trucks giving out black fumes... so should i change my synthetic oil every 5000km? anyone does that? or is it paricular to my car model? anotherthing to check..my manual has a table for engine oil ratings...it seems that X W-30 can only be used up to 30deg C outside temp...since singapore so hot, how can any car possibly use it? any comments or advice please.....
