  1. SINGAPORE - The authorities are searching for a full-time national serviceman (NSF) who fled from the police on Sunday morning (Jan 20) while bleeding from his left thigh. The police told The Straits Times that at around 6.10am, their officers conducted checks on two men at Block 365 Woodlands Avenue 1. 2. http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/man-110-boxes-arrested-not-stopping-tuas-checkpoint Despite being directed to another area for further checks, he continued driving his luxury car past Tuas Checkpoint, sparking a manhunt by the police. They found the man and his 7-series BMW sedan almost two hours later at Pioneer North Road and arrested him.The police officers found more 100 boxes and plastic bags packed in the boot and on the passenger seats. But instead of contraband such as cigarettes or drugs, they contained foodstuff like curry puff and kueh (local pastries). An Immigration & Checkpoints Authority spokesman said yesterday that a 47-year-old Singaporean had arrived at the Tuas Checkpoint from Malaysia at 12.15pm on Tuesday. "The driver was accorded immigration clearance and proceeded to Customs Red Channel to declare the food products he had brought in from Malaysia. Checks were conducted on his vehicle and there were some discrepancies in the quantities declared," the spokesman added. "He was directed to a designated inspection bay for further checks. However, the driver drove off instead." Under the law, those who wish to bring in processed food such as traditional kueh from Malaysia need to apply for a permit with the Agri-food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore. The New Paper understands that the suspect had produced a valid import permit, but the quantity of food found in his car did not tally with that stated in the permit. He is suspected to have driven off because he misunderstood the instructions for further checks, TNP has learnt. It is believed he was directed to another area for the checks because the inspection bay was full, but he apparently misread the signal and drove off. Not long after the police tracked down the BMW to Pioneer Road North just after 2pm, a 28-year-old man saw the car surrounded by three police vehicles near Nanyang Technological University. He told Chinese evening daily Shin Min Daily News that the officers were seen carrying boxes of food from the car. A police dog was seen sniffing at about 110 boxes of various shapes and sizes and about 20 bags containing food stacked by the side of the road. Curry puff, packets of nasi lemak and kueh lapis were seen among the stash of food. It was only until three hours later that the boxes of food were loaded back into the car, Shin Min reported. Investigations are ongoing. Kueh distributors here told TNP that it is common to bring in the food items from Malaysia to sell because of the price difference. "In Singapore, most places sell 50 pieces of kueh for $20. In Malaysia, they may sell the same quantity for RM15 (S$5.30) to RM18," said a local distributor who declined to be named. He was surprised that a BMW was used to transport the food items as he had never heard of people using saloon cars for this purpose. "Usually, people use vans because cars are too small to contain all the goods," he said.
  3. http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2015/06/27/Hitandrun-driver-forgiven-Cops-focus-on-the-positives-after-crash/ KUALA LUMPUR: Sporting dark glasses to cover up their blackened eyes, the policemen who were rear-ended by a student in a viral hit-and-run video say they have already forgiven the driver. Kpl Zainal Abu Bee Din and Kpl Nor Alhayari Buyong said they would rather focus on the positi ves that came out of the accident. “We were not badly hurt. We have been injured much worse than this before. Luckily, the boy only hit us and not anyone else. “And we saw how quickly people were willing to help us. One motorcyclist chased after the Volkswagen after he ran and another gave us his video of the accident to help in the investigation,” said Kpl Nor Alhayari, 58. The two Mobile Patrol Vehicle partners were out on their rounds at about 8.55am on Wednesday in an underpass in Jalan Pudu when they were hit from behind by the student in a blue Volkswagen Polo. The student braked for a fleeting second before stepping on the gas pedal, pushing the skidding police car into a concrete barrier before speeding off. “We were totally caught by surprise. We were just talking in the car. I was checking my phone and then all of a sudden, BANG!” Kpl Zainal said. Kpl Nor Alhayari gripped his wheel tighter to stop the car from overturning as the Volkswagen’s hood dug into the bottom of the police car and lifted its two back wheels. Kpl Zainal, 50, was cut in his right eye while his partner hit the dashboard. Despite their injuries, Kpl Zainal was back patrolling the streets on Thursday while Kpl Nor Alhayari hung out in the Dang Wangi police station after being given medical leave. The officers said the student was returning from a night club party the evening before the accident. “He messaged us later that day to apologise, and we both accept. “I did not want to reply to him because you know how people can take what we say and try to make us look bad on the Internet. “So, we just accept the apology and move on,” Kpl Zainal said, adding that the Volkswagen in question had already had three accidents before this. The student was charged yesterday and pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol.

  6. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...a_crossing.html Posted on 23 Jun 2012 Hit-and-run driver hits rollerblader at zebra crossing then flees STOMPer Chan says his brother was knocked down by the driver of this car, momentarily trapping his leg under its bumper. When his brother told the man he would call the police, the driver lied about parking his car elsewhere to not obstruct traffic and simply fled the scene. The STOMPer wrote: "My brother was rollerblading in the Jurong West area when he was about to cross a zebra crossing. "He raised his hand to signal to one oncoming car (about 10 metres away) that he is going to cross the road. "If you attended primary school, you would know that safety lessons teach us about raising hands before and during crossing the road. "However this driver did not stop and knocked onto my brother, causing his right leg with the roller blade on to be stuck under his bumper. "The driver came down and asked my brother if he was okay. "My brother used force to pull out his leg, damaging his roller blade and the conversation was as below: "Driver: Are you ok? "My brother nodded and asked: Do you know this is a zebra crossing for pedestrians? "Driver: No, not really. "Bro: I raised my hand to signal I was going to cross. "Driver: No, I thought you were going to stop. "Bro: Are you going to be responsible? "Driver: No. "Bro: I am going to call the police now. "Upon hearing this, the driver was stunned and immediately went back into his car. My brother then followed and stopped in front of his car to prevent him from running away. "Despite my brother standing in front of his car, the driver accelerated, forcing my brother to move backward a few steps. "My brother then stood firm to see if the driver will continue to move forward. The driver stopped and came down from his car a second time and told my brother that he wanted to park the car in another place in order to not block traffic. "Instead of doing that, he drove away. "A witness came down to help my brother who sustained a slight injury. Traffic police came sometime later to take down the report and my brother was asked to go for medical check-up and make a second police report at the police post. "I put up this post not because we are not being compensatedfor my brother

  8. Another hit-&-run case in Pasir Ris: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg..._the_scene.html Female Driver Bangs Into 2 Cars, Then Flees STOMPer interlink said a female driver hit his car at a multi-storey carpark in Pasir Ris on Jan 28. An eyewitness to the incident told him later that her male passenger took over the driver's seat and drove off. According to the STOMPer, he had parked his car at the multi-storey carpark and went to attend an event at a coffeeshop nearby. At the event, he coincidentally heard some people talking about a hit-and-run incident at the carpark and a friend of one of the organisers of the event had taken a photo of the incident. When the STOMPer looked at the photo, he realised one of the cars affected was his. He told STOMP: "The female driver of the grey car hit my car, the yellow Mitsubishi, and another car, a silver Hyundai, after coming down from the upper deck of the multi-storey carpark of Block 444 Pasir Ris. "She reversed after hitting the cars. "Her male passenger then took over the driver's seat and drove off!" One of the pictures taken by the eyewitness apparently shows the female driver standing outside her car as her male companion was taking over the driver's seat, before they both drove off.
