  2. Does anyone have prior experience in the above? i understand that it works by usong two pieces of a special type of epoxy ( which i think you can buy in DIY stores) which acts as the bonding agent. i read that the bond is so strong you would require a blowtorch to cut it. i need to do a L joint (or rather rejoin) of two 3% carbon steel. Dimensions of joint is estimated to be 60mm x 10mm x 10mm.
  3. The usage of aluminium on cars has been rather rife lately. Benefits of using the lightweight material are downright obvious. It does not only reduce the vehicle's weight which offers better fuel economy, but it also improves the vehicle's dynamics. Engineers at Acura (Honda's luxury vehicle division) have come up with a new way of joining steel and aluminium. This new method is said to be a much simpler process compared to traditional methods. The essential part of this new method is the "3D Lock Seam" structure. The steel and aluminium parts are layered and hemmed together twice and this prevents them from detaching. The new method also uses a special adhesive that completely fills any gaps which will prevent from any corrosion. Acura has started using this new method on its 2014 RLX model (pictured above) which features aluminium panels welded to steel parts. This has helped to reduce around 17 percent of weight per door, compared to traditional welding methods. Weight reduction on the outer part of the vehicle brings the point of gravity closer towards the centre of the vehicle which improves stability. The new method also reduces the need for spot welding processes. This new joining process will eventually be used onto other models, including those in Honda's line-up. Image credit: Honda/Acura

  5. Hi guys, I'm driving a latio and contemplating whether to operate my muffler to semi-flow or changing to a universal "sports" muffler. The downside of operating is that it is a one-way ticket and is very hard to find 2nd hand stock muffler except Tan Cheong when I want to swap back. Another way is to change to a universal muffler whereby I can revert back to stock any day. One question I need to ask is universal muffler normally needs welding and I'm not sure whether I can pass inspection by the 3rd yr even if I change back to stock cause of the welding marks. Any bro with experience can kindly advice? I know it is illegal and carry a fine :)
  6. i thinkin of adding two pieces of additional metal plate to my bonnet so tat my headlight will look more fierce. nt eyelid, as the metal pieces are jus part of the bonnet itself. please see the pics for samples. anyone knows where to do this kinda of welding??? thks

  8. Any people tried welding pipes? I'm planning to get some mild steel or stainless steel pipes and get it cut and welded together for my turbo intake plumbing. It is cheap materials, but the labor is rediculous in USA. $1000 USD for turbo header + charge pipes. I'm wondering what's the cost in Singapore/Malaysia to get the following done. 1. Plasma cut 1/2 inch stainless steel engine - exhaust manifold flange 2. TIG weld, fabricate a turbo manifold 3. MIG weld bunch of pipes My friend is visiting USA, so I might get someone there to help me make a full stainless steel equal length turbo extractor, if it is cheap. As an update: I've done the following in my project 1. Convert my fuel system into a return fuel system by adding fuel return line + fuel pressure regulator 2. Installed E-Manage (not tuned yet)
