asking on behalf of a good friend. not me ar!

the divorce is gonna to be a very straightforward one. no court case to fight over assets or whatever. no children in the family.

any one can recommend a cheap lawyer, just to do the paperwork?

what's the normal rate for a straight forward divorce case?

Go Lam & Co. I did my divorce with them. Total cost S$1700. Cheapest I can find. But that was back in 2006 and now I already happily remarried. [:p]

Hi All,

I know this might not be the right forum for my complaint, but I am devastated to find a solution.

Recently I was going through divorce procedures. My divorce supposed to be a contested case and I found a lawyer through this website. The agreement signed was 6 to 9k for such contested case. However, in the end my case has turned out uncontested, but I was given a huge bill of 7k. I have checked market rate for uncontested case is approx. 2.5 to max 4k. Hence, he has grossly overcharged me. After negotiation he still think he is right.

In additional his service is super lousy. There is no meet up and no explanation given. After few emails of complaint, he left my case with a intern who has made so many mistakes.

I already have stressed over my divorce and now l am further stressed by my lawyer.

Anyone can advise me what should I do?

Thanks

Samsoon

Can you afford the 7k? If yes, moves on bro.

As you have mentioned, you were already stress out with the divorce, why then start another case with the lawyer when your divorce turns out to be pretty smooth (from contested to uncontested)

We come to this world to enjoy and create goodness for ourselves to continue to enjoy in our next life wherever it might be. We don't really have much time here.

Next time sign contract for uncontested and if kenna contested then just pay the higher rate.

You have to be careful dealing with lawyers.

your lawyer most likely has an ironclad contract with you which leave you with little room to wiggle your way thru

suggest you have a nice chat with him to lower down the price

what i can suggest you to do is this

1 pay up and forget it

2 pay up then complain to law society and toothless case and to throw in more weight, blast it on social.media

3 dont pay then wait for the fees to compound with interest till above 10k he goes to small claim court and sue you again

or

you can say radx abang n adek with you see if he scare or not

just like when you have stomach pain and you suspect is cancer, instead of going to normal doctor you go straight to the specialist. After diagnose and found out no cancer, you complain the specialist charge too high?

Maybe he did the preparation for a contested case but in the end didn't need to use it.

Anyway TS won uncontested he should be happy right?

He is now a free man.

What if the lawyer lost and he is still married?

Wrong analogy leh.

It's more like you go to the specialist, he finds out it ain't cancer after examination and instead of charging you just the examination costs, he also charges you 50% of the treatment cost. Whether contentious or not, it's going to be the same lawyer right?

I beg to differ with the advice given so far.

Better you read whatever agreement you have with the lawyer and then decide from there. Don't need to take what the lawyer says as the law.

Not like that say. He went to specialist. Specialist say is suspected cancer. Need to do MRI. So MRI do already but result not out yet, another doctor come in say is just gastric. Gastric doctor take over. But MRI do already, still have to pay for MRI, correct?
