Iisterry 3rd Gear June 24, 2010 Share June 24, 2010 Please also exercise restraint in your posting. Nobody proven guilty yet. All those negative postings may be used to sue for libel. Don't get into trouble just to make yourself heard. I think we can already be pretty sure what will be the outcome of this case. The mainstream media seldom digs out so much dirt unless they are "cleared" to go ahead. This observation is based on history. I am also of the opinion that if you put yourself forward in the public sphere as a public figure you are inviting comment and discussion, so if people say something about you, they should be held to a lower standard of slander / libel / defamation. Now this is bordering on gahment's OB markers. You may have been brought up overseas but this is Singapore, not New Zealand. Investigative journalism into the actions of the Untouchables are frowned upon here. ↡ Advertisement
Darryn Turbocharged June 24, 2010 Share June 24, 2010 In my opinion, a good and timely read... http://www.cultwatch.com/HowPastorsGetRich.html Any Christians here able to attest to the appropriateness of the quotes from scripture in that article? Hmmm.....how many of the issues raised do you see inside CHC.... How many of those practises have we been railing about here without even discussing the legality of what Kong Hee is doing? Yes it is, but just because the govt says so doesn't mean it has to be. Just because this is the way it has always been, doesn't mean it is the way it must be. Each and everyone of us must live our lives within the confines of what we believe to be natural justice. Now naturally when I comment, the cultural environment is taken into account, however this doesn't mean I take this environment as an unchangable given and I can't forward a vision of what I believe can or should be. What I am advocating matches my internal sense of fairness, which has little to do with law.
Axela72 5th Gear June 24, 2010 Share June 24, 2010 (edited) I wonder why after a couple of incident of mis use of trust fund, ppls still dare to continue such kind of event. seem like the punishment is not server enough as a sign of warning. Should make the law similar as drug traffic like death sentence etc, and see who still bold enough to take the challenge. What do you all think? Anyway, these ppls has already enjoy luxury life with those money for quite sometime. it shouldn't be a concerns for them to die earlier to visit their Lord, right? Requiemdk 1st Gear June 24, 2010 Share June 24, 2010 Hmmm.....how many of the issues raised do you see inside CHC.... Why even bother to count... Might as well have renamed the article "Story of CHC" How many of those practises have we been railing about here without even discussing the legality of what Kong Hee is doing? Actually, I thought it was a good article to think about for another reason - are there such checks and balances in this country as the people who run that website and if so, what on earth are they doing? Let's just focus on religion here... I know that question can be asked in other contexts too It does the faith no good if the 'prosperity gospel' and the "sermons" of such mega-churches are viewed as the norm or the truth, especially by impressionable youth. I would be really uncomfortable if the government had to step in to put a stop to such nonsense as they seem to be doing now. More government interference in our lives is the last thing we need in this country. The following two articles (koped the link from HWZ) really ought to be read by more people. http://sg.christianpost.com/dbase/church/2537/21|29/1.htm http://sg.christianpost.com/dbase.php?cat=church&id=2547 The part where he says that the pastor should prepare for his time in the pulpit is so true too. I did attend a small church for some time before and it was especially evident that the pastor spent A LOT of time and effort into preparing his sermons. In contrast, the sermons that I saw in a certain mega-church where I was dragged to recently... well... to say that they were nearly devoid of spiritual content would be a kind way of putting it. But of course, that's my atheistic opinion.

But of course, that's my atheistic opinion. To answer your question... the state has little place inside religion short of stopping out-right hate speech and (bugger me, must be tired, words are escaping me...am looking for the word that describes teachings of Osama Bin Laden or Taliban) It is up to people to make their own decisions. To me, the best way to fight such churches is to give MORE freedom not less. With more freedom comes the ability and willingness to criticise such churches without the threat of lawsuits and without being offensive or subersive. It would also help to teach people to question what they hear, and do their own investigation, rather than being taught "oh he is a public figure, he is allowed by the govt, I better not question"
Billyone Neutral Newbie June 24, 2010 Share June 24, 2010 how come mr and mrs pastor initially so clean now appears so less clean if they were preaching it should get re-inforce somewhere along the line their own message got lost but the funny thing is that some of the followers are still "blinded" by the awe of their pastors what will happen next is unlike the previous because these pastors have backing with deep pockets and so the fight with the authorities may be so long drawn that cobwebs are just begining to form keep us posted thanks

Roh96 6th Gear June 25, 2010 Share June 25, 2010 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Yes you are right, trust in the LORD. That's why i believe this is GOD's will to expose this matter. I always believe that many good people enter to serve in Charities and Religious places or even Garment with a Good Heart. It is along the way they lose it esp alot of money pass by their hands. NKF, RenCi, even small charities, Big or small money, still kena tempted and fallen from grace. Funny how money can change the character of a person once you have more than not enough. I've seen friends, relatives who start from humble beginnings and when they have "arrived" they tend to be snobbish, arrogant, talk big, talk around money stuff, can't keep a conversation without admiring at his expensive watch. In short HOWLIAN ..
