Driver killed by falling tree....

this is not the first time a tree has landed on a car with people in it, and certainly won't be the last. i still remember few years back a branch pierced the roof of a car and impaled the front passenger seat. it was driven by a lady with her two sons, BUT luckily, her sons were seating in the back as was their usual practice.

pruning the trees only reduces the risk somewhat, but doesn't really eliminate it.

If I could recall, there was such incident that happened at carpark and was reported in the news years ago. A branch or a small tree hits a car, luckily no one was injured.

Yes, the only way to reduce or to eliminate the risk is not to have trees planted along the road sides, dividers and on the pavements. Perhaps, they can come out with a procedures that say no trees allowed within X m away from the road.

Apart from acknowledging it as a freak accident, IMHO, the authority should be proactive in coming up with a resolution to minimize future risks that to simply say it is a microburst or act of god will.

Regards,

It's easy to solve this problem.

Remove all trees within x meter from the roads.

That will prevent one from crashing onto you or you from driving into one.

And besides, drivers get better peripheral visions without all the blockage.

But I supposed trees are more important than driver's life.

Sad for the little girl he left behind and the wife who apparently has to continue paying the car instalments....insurance?

Think the car will be total lost and the family could write to the insurance company for full coverage...

But I thought if classified as "Act of God will" then can't claim right?

To prevent similar incidents of trees toppling down due to undetected rotten roots growing underground, the following proposals are in the planning to be forwarded to Parliament:

a. a new law will be proposed requiring all tree roots to grow above ground so as to be visible

b. investment in new X-ray equipment that allows officials to view underground roots

c. creation of a new police unit to investigate any probable links (including conspiracy) between trees and longkangs

d. the police are to investigate whether the tree toppling at the Istana was a foiled attempt on the president's life

e. NEA is to investigate the properties of current rain water to see any signs of sabotage, ie addition of any agents that cause longkang blockage and trees toppling

I saw the news yesterday. What disturbs me is at the wake, there was a Swastika, aka Nazi sign displayed over the body.....

Sad for the little girl he left behind and the wife who apparently has to continue paying the car instalments....insurance?

Nazi swastika sign is a mirror image of what the buddhist use lah, both different and the Nazi sign is rotated 45 degrees.

Mirror image where left become right, top become bottom.

Old and tired tactic by MM Lee. Scold people and then claim that the only alternative is undesirable when in fact it is far from the only alternative and it is more likely that the people in charge were clueless in doing their jobs, only knowing how to react with stock solutions rather than plan ahead and think of proper solutions worth their stratospheric salaries. Not going to work in the long run on people with half a functioning brain.
