Well, go for it.  [laugh]

Too old liao la, I also got no golden/silver mountain to invest. The worse part is parents don't want to move anywhere; I just can't leave them here to fend for themselves right?

Well, save up first and decide later when you are alone

Unless you are very near the age of collecting CPF.

Ya i can feel your situatuon. Parent is the main concern. Pretty hard for her to settle in another foreign land. My case Aust even though my wife already gotten her PR no way my mum can't speak English can be happy there.

Yeah, in fact, I had a chance to go Aust too when I was much younger. Same thing, parents are my concern and it has always been till today.

Quit early better than lose more.

Penang is actually voted one of the best place in the world to migrate. For those who do not want a culture shock in the western countries, Penang is really a good place to migrate to and even retire.

I just hope Malaysia will do something about its country security.

New Zealand is also a place that welcomes Singaporeans well.

I have gone to both places with a view to retire there. I prefer NZ, but the stakes have been raised considerably in 2017 to get an investor PR. Now have to invest NZD 3 mio onshore. All onshore income gets taxed at 33%. In fact NZ taxes worldwide income at 33%. Think carefully about PR there.

Penang is very attractive. Lovely condos facing the sea few km from Georgetown for RM1 mio. Food is cheap, place is clean, flights to come back to SG (in case of medical needs) are cheap and frequent. Only bad things are the warm, humid weather from Dec to March, and nothing much to do there unless cross to mainland. Cross to Mainland is open to the security issues of West Malaysia. The Penang entertainment scene is very dead, unless sports and home entertainment is your thing. Very little live concerts. Life gets boring there very quickly.

The only one house I looked at, that I thought was okay, in Nagano, came it at S$260,200 so it's a bit of a bait'n'switch headline. Don't want to see what a $500 house looks like.

That said, big house and land for 1/4m isn't bad if you could handle the Japanese language and super quiet areas.

the house may well be in the middle of the woods and may need a lot of work to be done ..

if you watch "the before and after" on the japanese channel you can see that their house construction is mainly wood, and over time being exposed to moisture, rain and snow, it will rot and reconstruction is really not cheap.

but if james diversifies into relocation planning for mcfers he can do this business as well as run a used car dealership there .. 😉
