Kar_lover Supercharged September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 from my "outsider" view, i never drove a mazda before, mazda is only smart at exterior styling Their inside also nice. At least nicer than Toyota and Nissan and prob Honda too (but to lesser extent). But power low and FC high.

Akiyo Clutched September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 (edited) bm, merc, audi isn't. at least a while, i was quite shocked entering the bm audi showroom couple of months back and it was packed! Quite true too.. the German brands seem to be doing quite well currently.. maybe because of the mentality that normal jap cars are well over the $100K mark, so might as well go for conti as it makes more sense... The BMW 5 series, as we all know, is the best selling car model (and indeed brand) based on a recent finding. VW also sold well (4th) and Volvo managed to squeeze into the last place of the top ten of best selling car brands. Even Porsche registered 372 of their cars which was just edged out by Volvo. As for Mazda, they registered 189 of their cars from Jan to June this year and is in the 17th place; with Mini just ahead of it. Suzuki is in 18th while Subaru takes 20th position. It seem that mainstream Japanese and Korean brands have suffered a tumble in car sales recently. Singapore is now more of a haven for luxury or near luxury cars. I guess it will continue to be that way for the next few months or years until LTA decides to release more COEs into the car market. Akiyo Clutched September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 (edited) not true. mazda's overall packaging and chassis design is superior to the usual thaiyota or honda swadeekup. prob their weakest area is in the engine dept, esp on the lower end 1.6L models. Mazda's cars are quite well-known for their handling and the sporty styling of their cars. But their problems lie in the rather poor fuel consumption and lower power figures when you compare other Japanese makes/models of similar engine cc and car type. These are the two areas that they might want to look into so as to improve their car sales. VW and Audi also enjoyed good sales in their car models. I think cars with TC smaller engines (1.4 to 2.0 L) might be the way to go as it efficiently reduces CO2 emission and provides more torque/power. For some enthusiasts, they can just do simple mods to achieve significant gains in power. Due to emission and economic problems, NA engines such as VTEC, Rotary or even those big V6/V8 engines may become a thing of the past. Sad to say but it might well be true. We may only find them in super or exotic cars. Edited September 5, 2011 by Akiyo

Kangadrool Supersonic September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 Each month rental already 250,000. Even assuming selling each car profit allocation to rental is $2,000 per car... Mazda really need to sell 100+ cars per month to survive.....very very hard with the reduced quota currently. But they had it good during the 90's and early 00's. Time for the conti makes to shine for the next 5 five years or more....until gov decided to release more COE( very unlikely loh) That's why it may be more prudent to be more "low profile" and not splash tons of money over expensive showy showroom. Look at Daihatsu/STS, think they can still tong a bit longer though they hardly sell any new cars now. They still have a few showrooms and workshops around this tiny island though the standards are 1970's style. LOL.
Soya Supersonic September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 Yeah - but what other 7 seater in SG market can perform like the Exiga GT? Have lah, the S-Max 2.0 Ecoboost. Looks helluva better too. Oso, the upcoming VW Sharan wif the GTI's 2.0L donk.
Ben5266 Supercharged September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 Nissan is somewhat bouyed by their commercials - for Honda, they have a slightly stronger line-up (to my mind) with the Accord, Stream and Oddy alll being better than the Mazda equivalents. But even for Honda it is noticable that their sales still would not be strong enough to sustain Mazda - so one suspects that Honda are also losing money - although their overheads may be structured differently. What probably killed Mazda was the Alexandra showroom - but for this they may have been ok.... I see KM is run by traditional Chinaman way... low leverage. In bad time... can sustain the bleeding. With still a sizable Honda fleet on this island, their servicing and repair business is still good.

With still a sizable Honda fleet on this island, their servicing and repair business is still good. Normally, after the warranty is over, many tend to move away from those ADs. If any company does not sell new cars, after 5 years or so, their service centres would also be over!
Proton_neutron 1st Gear September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 The new Mazda 6 is really quite a flop. The predecessor was better =) The new Mazda 3 with the smiley face like a Peugeot shunned away many previous Mazda 3 owners. And yes, Mazda's pricing is out of the world, and that hurt its sales. Akiyo Clutched September 5, 2011 Share September 5, 2011 (edited) LOL... agreed. The Exiga is particularly hideous. Forester still can accept. Subaru doesn't really focus much on the appearance of their car models, they are more well-known for their 4wd and boxer engine. Having said that, power isn't everything, more so on Spore roads when there are so many cars/vehicles on the roads these days and also many traffic lights, TP, Speed Camera and Traffic Light camera (fixed & mobile). Even with a family MPV with decent power like the Exiga GT, one may find it hard to fully exploit it I feel, unless you want to 'race' with another parent's car after you drop your kids at school. There is more driving to be had than just what is in Singapore though. I do agree with you however, if you never plan to leave Singapore in your car, then the Exiga GT is a waste of money. If however you like to take driving holidays to places like Port Dickson, Phuket, etc etc then a car like the GT would be fantastic - having power to on those sorts of roads can make a massive difference to safety and enjoyability alike. ↡ Advertisement
