How problematic is VW's 7 speed DSG?

Very Worry after reading this post ...

 

Vw very sly. Cannot sell diesel Tdi under vw brand due to emissions scandal and now they use another brand seat to sell to locals. Flee away folks from anything under vw group. They re great car scammers. The bloody 7 spd dry clutch gb is still as faulty as ever. Mu will spoil every 30k average. Get Renault diesel as their engine used in mb as well. The BMW 1.5l 3-Cyc diesel is the best in the market. Out of kindness I am warning folks here as i used to be a Tdi vw touran user. U have been warned!! Yes I am happy driving a very good diesel car brand with a Toyota gb now but it disturbs me that vw group tries to sell another diesel brand at cheaper price to get more sales to fund its recall exercise.

7sp DSG dry clutch gave me problems since 2nd week of ownership.my golf 1.4 tsi MU replaced 1x, reflashed 3x, but problem persisted till the day i sold the car. twice, almost got into accidents on highway because the car not moving for a few seconds (3 secs but felt like infinity) after i switched to right lane to overtake. car from behind almost rear ended into my car. probably thought i am an idiot. enough is enough. vw no more. to those who use left foot braking, take note the problem is much more frequent. i had to change to right foot braking to minimize the problem. And service at workshop quite poor. had enough.good riddance.

Today,Newspaper,the new SEAT Agent "Claimed" the current 7 Speed DSG Auto is the best,it Claimed all problems has been settle....anybody..wanted to try.?

I heard any car manufactured after 2014 April should be free of DSG problem.

These are just "words" without "action". If they are so confident, they should give 10 years unlimited mileage warranty for DSG gear box. A good example is Kia. They gave 10 year warranty on their engine to show that they are confident with their quality. This is what I call "action"

For what i am understanding the car acceleration not as fast as you are expected.

They will say "Blah Blah".  ..cause this & cause that...so it fail... No worries,we will change a new Gearbox for you,but you need to leave the car in the Workshop for 1 Week...

My Jetta is about 2 years old, 27000 km mileage, great car so far.

well, i sold the car after the problem remain unresolved. the car was indeed happier with conventional braking, but i just prefer left foot braking.

That's a fair assessment. DSG might not be for everyone. For my part, I brake with my right food and I like the sporty DSG feel.

I brake with my left foot as well, and I have two Golfs in my family. I drive my wife's car often, and my mum's car occasionally... both not having any issues* so far.

 

* Wife's car has developed mild juddering when moving off from standstill after 2 years of ownership to date, but I can live with it. But I don't think it has anything to do with left-foot braking.

 

I think it's more like you are braking incorrectly / riding the brake. When your foot is ever so gently on the brake, the clutch still disengages, and sometimes the natural reaction is to step harder on the gas to get the car going, and it causes the clutch to suddenly engage again. This is probably a good explanation why you have MU failures. MUs don't just fail... most of the time the failures are due to clutch wear and juddering complaints.

well, i can only speculate the software got confused easily. no, my old car or my current car doesn't exhibit this problem. and i am 100% sure i am not "riding" the brake. the problem happened most discernably in 2nd gear. by the way, skoda using the same dsg showed the same symptom during my test drive years ago and the sales exec was surprised. typical scenario: vehicle approaching junction ..right foot off the accelerator, car slows then left foot on the brake preparing to stop..lights turned green. foot off the brake, press the accelerator, rpm doesnt change, pump the accelerator nothing happens. a couple of seconds delay, then clutch engaged and car lurched forward. also during overtaking, pulled to right lane, nothing happened, rpm stayed even when pedal floored! car behind approaching fast, jammed brake cursing and honking :) almost felt like a very bad turbo lag...
