Unless u are on an assignment or hv lots of time to interchange lens, if not a zoom lens that zoom from 24 to 120mm or higher (in 35mm or FX ) is good enough for most suitation.

Why need zoom lens? Prime lens would be more than enough. Prime lens with large Aperture creates very nice bokeh.

Sorry, G1X.

Not really interchangeable. But Mirrorless.

Just read HWZ's review. Fantastic image quality given its gigantic sensor size. But the monstrous minimum focus distance at 20cm is a dealbreaker. [shakehead]

That would be Mr. Tey :D

And he's quite a runner too...too bad I don't join (any races nowadays...and slacking much [thumbsdown] ) so I don't see him in races anymore..but I think he still does it though..

I know there's a guy who regularly lugs a SLR with backpack and run marathon with it.

Where do you folks shop for your DSLR cameras?

Funan center?

Funan - TK Foto, Click!, SLR Revolution and don't underestimate Harvey Norman. Suffice to say it is not your typical HN store. And there is also Cathay across the road at Peninsula Plaza.

whichever place is cheapest. For my D600, it was cheapest at parisilk.

SLR Revo is usually one of the cheaper places though.

tech has improved by leaps and bounds in these 4 years.

I am totally noobs at digital photography … I only use my mobile phone camera.

just attended my son's n2 graduation presentation … used my phone … now see the vids make me giddy ...

so question : can rec me any DSLR below $500 that can take good videos in low lighting (like a concert hall) ?

don't have to be the newest product … something older also can.

U have to understand DSLRs dont shoot any image unless the settings are correct.

You will have to play with it to understand how to make it shoot.

Shooting in low light is likely going to disappoint you if you don't know what you're doing.

And in such low light, u will need to use manual settings. The camera is not smart enough to understand your brain.

You will need a low light fixed prime lens. Usually the cheapest prime lenses are traditionally the 50mm F1.8 for either FX/DX.

Can shoot at something around F2.2 to 2.5 (the lens should be able to reach F1.8 but it's not easy to maintain focus with such a shallow depth of field). And need max ISO if really dark like almost cinema with spot lights on the stage. Probably ISO 4000-6400.

Basically i advise you, for video, just get a good camera handphone and make do with what you have. Anyway the school has no official videographer?

I rented a 135mm F1.8 sigma lens for 2 days for my child's graduation concert.

the go pro stock lens is a F2.8 one.

I think u need F2.2 to 2.5. Any of the near flagship phones with a gimbal will probably outdo the gopro.

For example, this is a Huawei p20 specs.

Rear Camera

Dual-lens camera:

12 MP (RGB, f/1.8 aperture) + 20 MP (Monochrome, f/1.6 aperture), supports autofocus (laser focus, deep focus, phase focus, contrast focus)

thanks … I understand you are trying to teach me something here … but I am really not interested in photography … just want something like a point and shoot type … just to video my son's next few graduations.

this time the school had 2 videographers … but I am not willing to pay that $50 for a CD … which I am only going to watch about 8 mins of only. I would rather buy the camera and use it whenever I need to.

guess maybe, like what Jman888 said … be better off with a video camera … or Count-Bracula 's GoPro ?

but when I see the other parents put their dlsrs on the tripod and then film away like pros … really very satki !!

I did consider the mate20pro … but then again, cam-phone zoom sucks big time !

most probably will be seated about 50m from the stage.

The lens is not cheap also.

Depending on how dark, you definitely need a fixed prime for this. and if it's far, the lens are not the type u use commonly.

Even the normal DSLR free lenses won't work one.

I rented my lens specially for this year. Cost me about $80 dollars. But i was taking stills which is more challenging then just taking a video.

My concert ticket comes with no extra charge downloadable video anyway.

so in conclusion, a regular dslr won't help me …

hmmm … one can rent almost anything nowadays … even camera lenses !! :XD:

I think i'll have to look for a video camera instead then … hopefully they are not so complicated. [dizzy]

my tixs were $50 per pax … and CD is another $50 !! also paid $80 for my son's stage clothes.

from my last year's experience, bought the CD … now also dunno put where already …. :XD:
