Car camera recommendation

Would like to find out if 2ch is really necessary? I mean most of the time if someone bang you from behind its their fault unless they can prove that it's your fault. So by default can rely on the other party's front cam?

 

I'm asking cos I don't like the idea of the installer ripping the cap apart to pull the wires all the way to the rear. Cars usually will start having vibration and etc after something like that.

 

Also. Can anyone introduce a good 1 channel and 2 channel cam as well as installer? No brand preference but prefer a reliable one so slight premium is ok.

Some possible/actual scenarios which I have gathered from YouTube car camera feeds:

1. Someone banged you from behind at a junction, you go straight he turned left. You did not manage to capture/ glance his car plate.

2. At the car park for some reason you have to park with your rear facing outwards. Upon your return your bumper is on the floor. Report to building management request for CCTV footage, they tell you CCTV not working...

3. Accident occurred with cars behind of you, victims seek for car cam footage. You happen to have footage of what happened

 

Personally I installed 2-channel as the price is not that much expensive compared to 1-channel. Get a trusted/reliable installer. If you are getting Blackvue do ask those authorized resellers on Blackvue.com.sg to install for you.

In addition to what yrh0413 say, someone in another thread mention that this one guy got small collision from the rear. The driver behind accuse that he reversed into him.

This kind of scenario can be resolved by rear cam. I also feel that a rear cam, if got a blinking light, can deter people from tailgating you or doing unsafe actions like looking at their phone on the move since they realize they are being recorded.

I have heard and also have close friends/family members who have experienced amazing stories how some of these drivers can spin up! These days, honesty is dead and without evidence, it can be difficult to prove the case even in a case of someone knocking into the rear.

 

Thus, for about $200 more, I will go for both front and rear cameras. Having said that, I have not found a rear camera that can give good picture quality.

i have both fitted on diff cars, current prices...as below....(my price and fitting are different from below as i have cellink b added on for the bv650 on the merc_

app is quite basic, but gets the job done and allows u to view videos direct on live view or those recorded WITHOUT DOWNLOADING to your hp/ipad, can upload to youtube direct from app

downloaded videos on your app when u view, will see a embedded gps map...blocks away part of the view..good and bad

 

 

 

tw750 : app more fully fleshed out, but unlike bw650, u must download to the app to view..abit irritating but not that big a deal breaker, but a big hassle if u have a hit and run and u need to d/l all vids to view 1 by 1

unlike bv, no embedded gps map on the video when u download

 

not hot...ventilation is like singlet, white led on front, blue led on rear

full 1080 f+r

cant seem to change image quality in app, probably set to max all the way

red light camera warning is good

 

between the 2, i would say both are excellent choices, just go for the cheaper one unless u really fancy the t/w red light cam warning

In some cases they are honest people but then you remember that their insurance document has a guideline saying:

"Do not admit fault."

don't worry about whether there is an active LED on your front/rear camera. When you are on the road unlikely drivers in front and behind of you will really pay attention to whether you have a car cam installed.

 

However having an active LED helps a lot when your car is parked somewhere, it helps to deter people like your nasty neighbor from damaging your vehicle.

Sorry if I am intruding on this thread. I am unfamiliar with BlackVue. I am after a camera that can record continuously for about an hour or more. This is more for my driving holidays to capture a scenic drive. Will the BlackVue get the job done or perhaps another type of camera would be better like a Go-Pro? I do not have experience with either.

if its a rental car, a gopro would be more versatile, if its your car, either one of the above would be fine

Some Koreans install 2 sets of 2-channel car cams in their vehicle, front/rear left/right. If you really want comprehensive recording probably you can ask your passenger to fly a drone above your car.

 

Just make sure your drone don't hit the ERP gantry :p

Get a GoPro, normal dashcams do not have very high frame rate/ bit rate. For normal dashcams your videos will be rather blur and pixelated when you record from a moving vehicle. Get a GoPro and some suction cups, mount the GoPro at the side of the car.

if u are flying overseas, u can buy at airport, no gst

else just buy anywhere outside, price is controlled/fixed

memory card get strontium nitro plus/nitro or samsung pro, dont get sandisk as it dies often

A nice Youtube vid on different mounting angles, I think mounting at the front tip of the car works best but footage may be bumpy if you are travelling on rough roads. Do remember to buy spare batts .

 

I won't suggest getting a GoPro from airports... yes you save on GST but if this is your first GoPro I strongly recommend you get one from local shops (plenty of shops at Funan selling GoPro), spend some time to be familiar with the settings and try the GoPro by mounting it on your SG car. Be familiar with the suction cups; last thing you want is to reach your destination with a superb view and you turn back... your GoPro is missing no longer attached to your car.

 

If you want to be safe, get your second GoPro at the airport. It can serve as a backup or as a second camera that you can mount on the car... one capture the front another facing you and your family... expressions can be priceless. :)

Higher-end Blackvue comes with GPS built-in (except for the DR750 which the GPS module is optional... odd exception).

GPS works to track your vehicle speed and heading.

 

GPS can be useful when you are involved in an accident to prove your speed at point of accident, but it can be a disadvantage to you too if you had been speeding.

 

Magic Pro is a cut-off device to prevent your Blackvue from depleting your car battery if you connect your GoPro directly to your car batt.
