I am a bit confused. If someone shoplift and he didn't walk out of the shop, can you say he stole or rather he has intention to steal?

So he is caught outside singapore water? Or his condition says cannot go out to sea? [confused]

I think it will be the statements from the Malaysian guy and boatman that will be used.

Is there any other better defence?

his intention to runaway has been established, they just wait for him to carry out the action and stop him before he cross the water line.

I don't know can charge based on intention or suspect motive har. Did he cross or about to cross any line? Then no need for any court hearing liao. He is already caught by police no need to prove innocent. :D

Next time don't buy car please don't touch, ask or test because intention already established therefore deal done. [:p]

innocent until proven guilty

His case is like judgement given. even minister came out to talk. maybe it is the fault of the press, always sensationalize news. haha

Supersonic

innocent until proven guilty

They will present evidence la.

Maybe someone in his inner circle has broken (otherwise how they know he is there?). Maybe there's a trail of money leading to the ones helping to plan the escape.

Maybe the boatman will reveal what happened for a lighter sentence.
