"If MM (Minister Mentor) had his druthers when it comes to the COEs and ERP and so on, he would say, 'forget about the ERP, just squeeze on the COEs; don't let them buy cars; no cars, they can't complain. Have the unhappiness once, done with it'."I say, 'they all want cars, let them own the cars and we will put the gantry up; beep, beep, beep, they get angry, never mind. But at least they get the car'." -LHL

Why ? Untill now everyone can't tell what's is he or the rulling party are selling ?

To me, they're just doing their lip services in disguise !

Any good leader will not say this, their basic is " if you still want it, than you pay by your own accord ! "

how about additional road tax for foreigners just like housing? hehe

Might as well suggest ask them to pay more for food, when they shop, you know, because in weekend, restaurants & shopping centers are very crowded.....

True, most of the present buyers are capable to fork out more than 30% anytime!

If this rule is brought back, again the "marginal buyers" would be affected more than others!

esp those OPC [lipsrsealed] [lipsrsealed] [lipsrsealed]

if you put the 30% there, most of those ah beng (used car salesman) will be out of job and then resort to high crime like loan sharks, etc.....think the current scheme keeps the prisons empty and manageable, and thus let those buggers earn their keep cos still got hope

What is the age of the car in your search?

Plenty of cars 3 years or older are below 100K.

Maybe he is looking for brand new cars. [:p]

Is OPC quite helpful to those at the present COE climate? We have a document control guy in our office driving an OPC Vios $2 COE (Nov 2008). I guess the total cost of the car was less than 20k! Very good right? He comes to office before 7 and leaves after 7!

Govt now admit is miscalculation but back then they let people own car and open the COE flood gates. So wonder what does govt really want?! [:/]

This is the real reason, not foreigners. Thank you Raymond Lim!!

The gamen did not release the percentage between foreigners and locals. Unless they share with us, I believe will be another heated talking point again. [laugh]

Wait for property market to drop 15%, then buy condo, then see price go up 30% in next 34 months, then sell for my next car

Wah! you are so enterprising, man. :D

Turbocharged

cooling measures needed for private-owned cars!!

revamp COEs!

- first time Singaporean buyers no penalty

- second or more time Singaporean buyers pay 5%, 10%, 15% and so on (to discourage frequent changing of cars. exceptional if proven it's a lemon car)

- Singaporeans owning more than one car pay extra 10% for each additional car

- PRs pay extra 10%

- foreigners pay extra 20%

ok ok... i admit i anyhow suggest one [drivingcar] [drivingcar]

I also want to anyhow hatum. haha

P plates drivers = no more than 2000cc (like class 2 restrictions : 2B - 2A - 2 sub catergories)

P plates drivers/riders = 2 years probation

P plates drivers = not allowed on expressway lane 1

Trucks = not allowed on expressway lanes 1 and 2

Trucks / Taxi = speed limiters installed

Taxi = not allowed on expressway lane 1

And if MAS brings back 30% downpayment for car loan.. sure lesser number of cars.

How does this help the reduce the population of cars? It just mean those marginal buyers may not buy the car. but still, every COE quota per bidding cycle willl be fully taken up. Never seen a day where COE had never been fully taken up.

See my observations inside:

I also want to anyhow hatum. haha

P plates drivers = no more than 2000cc (like class 2 restrictions : 2B - 2A - 2 sub catergories)

When their probabtion is over, they would go for supercars without "P" plate! How to mitigate this danger?

P plates drivers/riders = 2 years probation

This one is not bad!

P plates drivers = not allowed on expressway lane 1

Same as point 1) above. When they would be trained on Lane 1 to hog [:p] ??

Trucks = not allowed on expressway lanes 1 and 2

This one I agree if any part of expressway has more than 3 lanes. But those with 3 lanes, the trucks and vans would make a continuous row dangering the exit and entry of other vehicles.

Trucks / Taxi = speed limiters installed

Good point. Agreed.

Taxi = not allowed on expressway lane 1

I agree this personally!
