Yes, just like the Pre COE days, that is why those days there are not so many cars on the road. Proven that system is better than COE in controlling no of cars on the the roads.

Agree!!!

I was hoping that MAS will change the rule back to 70% loan and 7 years max but they surprise me with 60% loan and 5 years max. :(

Same same, I drive a little 1.3L car, very proud of it too, unlike those driving branded cars like Merc, but dun even know the basics of keeping to the correct lane, that I look down upon.

Whether it is a small car or COE car, if the problem can serve me well. I also dont mind driving.

If life is not about money essentially then I trust a lot of people can just work 2 days a week to survive and not slog till the cow comes home.

<---------- Money is just a means or tool, to satisfy basic needs, maybe plus a little luxury depending on how much an average person decides he needs it. If what you mean is that money is all important above other things, and that it's the only motivation for you to work at all, well, since everyone is entitled to his views, please feel free to live by it for the rest of your life as a slave to money, if i may put it this way.

When we first started we just want 3 meals a day, after we have 3 meals we want a house, after we have a house we want a car and the list goes on. Again if one can afford something better it will not settle for something less inferior right?

<------- As long as the pursuit of money or "getting better things" is managed with a good balance with regard to other aspects of life eg family, friends, health, values, etc which, like it or not, are important parts of human life.

Just to side track a bit

Between a piece of meat and a piece of bone which will a carnivor choose first assuming it has not eaten for days? I will reckon that it will go for the meat first before settling on the bone later as snack maybe. What I'm trying to illustrate is that an animal will also know what is best for it given the situation to choose.

If someone has the chance to become monetary fulfilling will one give up? Yes only if that someone has already got the basic.

Therefore it is basic instinct that we will choose what is best with due consideration to at least fill the minimum requirement. Human are no different from animal in this aspect.

<--------- with due respect to animals, I sense that maybe you are lowering yourself too much towards them, is this necessary?

As responsible individuals or parents, we make enough money to be self sufficient and tale care of those who depend on us for basic needs in life so that we don't have to burden others and the society. Beyond that, we also make some extra money, if possible, to prepared for rainy days plus some so-called luxuries in life, hopefully not making this an endless chase ie good to set a limit in the pursuit so as not to sacrifice the "other things" mentioned above.

yes, "these people" should continue to buy new cars and shun the used car market. This is because they need to show off and not lose face. Very siah suay to tell people u bought used car ok? Also, used cars very problematic u know?

most importantly, with less demand for used cars, prices will be depressed. Then it will be a buyers' market [cool]

did you read the news yesterday abt the guy that chiong to komoco on Mon night to buy his $150K veloster? [knife]

i hope got many people buy the new cayman S and shower it with TLC. Then hopefully i can take over from one of them in a few years time [inlove]

Yes, some fella called James.

He chiong to buy becos he cant afford it with the new rules.

To me, it simply means he CANT afford it, yet ngeh ngeh want to buy.

Many young people are like that one lah, hai........ -_-

Why need to rush to buy? Coe is fall and car will be cheaper .

Cos even if the car he is buying falls from $150k to $100K, he can't afford the $40k d/payment.

Anyway heard on the news just now that dealers (not mentioned big or small) were reporting that half of their customers have been cancelling their orders. Is this due to loan issue or ARF issue?

If they had already got the loan approved before the new rule, are they affected by the new rule? If not then i suppose those cancelling are from the luxury side as ARF is only paid upon registration. So by the next COE exercise even if they get their COE at a lower price, they would have to pay more in ARF which i suppose they have to top up in cash since their (approved) loan was for the "old" ARF.

Anywaay if really 50% of buyers backing out of their purchases then might have $1 COE.....since the over subscription in each exercise is not by that much.
