i would comfortably agree with this for a seasoned watch enthusiast or collector, but kar_lover said those aren't high on the agenda. Rolex are nice and historical, but not for everyone.

I think you should buy whatever speaks to you and make you enjoy wearing a watch.

Well, in the end I bought a Breitling SuperOcean 44mm (non-chronograph) at around $4.6k. The lady still recognized even though I have not even step into her shop during these past 7 years since I bought an Oris Williams F1 watch from her.

Anyway the SO was the same price as the Tag AQ 500mm Chronograph (which I had already decided to get) but she advised me to get the Ling as the brand is "higher" than Tag (and Omega for that matter - was consider the SM). Was quite difficult decision for me cos I am so used to having chronographs and not sure whether I will like the non-chrono (the SO chorno version was another $3k!). But in the end went with her advice. Once good thing about non-chrono is the sweeping second hand is much more noticeable because for chorno watches the second hand is in one of the small sub dials so you can't really see the sweeping action.

Stain on the underside or on the top?

Good straps dont stain easily, they are in fact water resistant .

But being light color , its understandable

Thats becos , the strap is matt and light colored and unglazed.

Such straps are not water resistant.

The santos lady is just a dress watch and not meant for rugged wear.

Most true sports watches comes with water resisitant straps which do not stain.

Its like LV mongram canvas bags, the leather will stain very easily and turn honey brown but that gives it character.

Those bags are meant to be rough use, i have quite a few myself...

Light colored leather is easily stained.

OMG bro... that cannot be your wife's sweat! No way can humans perspire so much and in that colour! [laugh]

It must be spilled tea or coffee.... tea contains tannin and that will change the colour of untreated leather.

If small budget, you can try buying a fine leather cleaner (gel or cream) from shoe shops, or even at mustafa's shoe section.

If got bigger budget, can try those luxury leather bag cleaning and recond shops... maybe bargain with them a price. If costs more than $100, maybe better off buying a new strap from Cartier boutique or Richemont.... [knife]

I dont think it can be "cleaned" mate.

The wetness has gone into the fibers of the leather and so it is not a surface thing.

An option is to use leather nourisher and go over the strap. This will darker everything in hope that the difference will not be that great.

Best option is to replace it with an aftermarket water resistant croc strap. About $200.

big congrats and fantastic choice! I was contemplating either one of those also or the Heritage at one stage but with baby on the way at the time, it didn't follow through. I think you made the right choice not choosing the Tag. This is my Carrera Calibre 1 Limited Edition and sees the least wrist time of my watches, including my G-Shocks and Seiko's! The build quality is no where close to Breitling, I assure you.

It's gonna be tough...once the bug has bitten the itch is hard to scratch! :D

Got any pics?

Sorry for the late reply, none of the Seiko Spork I'm afraid, but Google will be happy to step in.

I do have one of my SKX007J on nylon Nato though, and also my Black Monster on olive Nato which goes together perfectly...

In my humble opinion, it doesn't take thousands of $$$ to be highly satisfied and consider yourself a watch enthusiast. I find these blissful and they are some of my favourite in the collection...everyone should own at least 1 Seiko [:)]

Since so many people here love gold watches, here's my wife's rose gold Datejust and my 1970's vintage Eberhard chrono with Lemania movement on brown croc strap ^_^

I have the Seiko monster too... It's orange dial, any name for that? I bought it in 2007 and my younger brother likes it so I passed it to him.. Kinda missed that watch now as he seldom wear it.
