yes. Under the Kubler-Ross model, which is used in death, i can also put it to illness, where one goes thru denial-anger-bargaining-depression-acceptance.

I believe she would be in still the denial anger state and thus, her initial and immediate reaction is defense and blame all else around her. Only when she has reached teh stage of acceptance, and is at peace with her challenges, she would be more gracious. funnily, she is a psych of some sort and seems like she cannot reconcile with her own emotions.

Guess I have had the privilege of seeing this in my encounters with patients to be more conscious of my own personal afflict when i had my challenges.

U mean, the ?

1) Denial

2) Realization/Anger

3) Bargaining w Divinity

4) Acceptance

But above is more for the terminally ill? Unsure if it would apply for cases of impairment. But the last 3 persons I worked with were angry people who would snipe at others even if the discrimination (if any) was by barely reasonable extension.

As for Joe, even as of 10yrs ago, I understand he is very well respected..... [sly]

Yes but it does resonate in some ways across although not that significant

I had a lengthy post typed out, but lost it because of internet flakiness. Oh well. Recreate it as best I can.

the bigger issue here i see is the attitude of the blind person. She has an entitlement mentality and it shows in how she behaves. Well, one can only feel sorry for her as if people see that kind of behavior, then they will just ignore her and may even go the distance of making remarks that would cause more undue stress upon her. She should be more gracious la

Fully agreed. Common sense/common knowledge dictates that McD's (and pretty much all eateries) disallow animals. If she'd made prior arrangements with a call/email to explain her need for a guide animal, and they'd initially said yes, then barred her after that, I would be very sympathetic to her.

Instead, she just arrived there without any warning and without having sought permission. I think she pretty much set out to make a scene, and then escalate it via social media to drum up sympathy for her "cause". That just makes her obnoxious. Visually-impaired people can be obnoxious too, even though a popular stereotype often portrays them as calm and almost saintly, for some strange reason. No, apart from defective or absent vision, they're pretty much like the rest of us - meaning they can be nice, or they can be dicks.

Her account was also inconsistent. She claims to have been more offended by the staff's assumption that she was there for the free food than from them shouting out "No dogs!" But most rational people wouldn't find fault with what the McD's staff said - basically that the restaurant staff were too short handed due to the freebie offer that they couldn't attend to her. Whether she wanted to sit down or get hash browns and coffee "for the road" is irrelevant. So there seems to be some misunderstanding of their intentions on her part, possibly wilful.

Furthermore, even though she claims not to have been offended by the refusal to admit her dog, that was pretty much the talking point for the whole incident, wasn't it? That became the social media focus, and she made no real effort to downplay that aspect. So I think she's more than a little disingenuous in this whole saga. She comes across (to me) as pushy and self-entitled.

As far as Joe's remarks go, I applaud him for having spoken his mind. Poor chap is being pilloried by public opinion. As far as I'm concerned, the only apology he owes is to the station and the listeners for having used invective on air, since that is in contravention of their broadcasting code. But I feel he owes no apology to this woman. His statement should ideally have been something like: "I'm sorry for having used a bad word on air, that is inexcusable. But I still feel she's a jerk, and I stand by that opinion." But given the negative publicity being exerted on the station, I don't think that's an option for him if he wants to keep his job.

blind person tie guide dog to wait outside supermarket then how blind person move around?

Well with a guide dog inside the supermarket, will the guide dog be useful? Unless the dog is able determine and differentiate the canned food or bottle or perhaps dog food only.

Background story: Esme the Guide Dog Rejectd Entry into Ngee Ann City ZARA

Dear TRS,

Saw Esme the guide dog ZARA saga on facebook...

Esme and her owner was refused entry at ZARA in Ngee Ann City and her owner was even hurled vulgarities and called an animal by the security guard.

Looking through the comments, couldn't understand why everyone is saying boycotting ZARA or taking sides when only served a one sided story:

ZARA has not voiced out about this incident yet. I am not a ZARA fan, neither am i Esme's friend. I wasn't there at the scene when this happen, but i just feel that we shouldnt judge basing on a one sided story.

I am an outsider, I do not know the whole story, But i am a major dog lover, i love dogs of all kinds, and i know how tough a job Guide dog has as they have to be alert and obedient for their owner's wellbeing are in the hand. They are their owner's eye.

The security guard at ZARA is wrong to hurl vulgarities & call Esme's mom an animal, but i believe so that no one will scold someone for nothing unless provoked. Let alone a security officer on duty. It is not the first time Esme and her owner made police report against shops that refused their entry or has conflicts with.

I just hope that ZARA will do a thorough investigation or eye witnesses could stand out and tell the public what exactly happened.

At the end of the day, i hope that Esme's owner is not using her vulnerability and the love public has for Esme to get things "done" the way she wants. Big companies when confronted by the social media for incidents like this will usually apologise for they do not want to be boycotted or labeled by the public.

Esme is an innocent guide dog that guards her owner with all her heart, despite SG being a not very dog friendly place, but we can see many places opening up and allowing guide dogs, even buses. And i am sure the public loves Esme like i do. Just hoping eye witnesses could come forward and let the public knows what is it that exactly happened.

Regards,

Whether allow to go into shop with guide dog or not, is an issue betw the shop owner and customers.

They should make this clear in the first place.

However, scolding vulgarities to a customer or even human being, is a NO-NO !

Hopefully with the in-shop camera, Zara can come out with an explanation so that everyone can know what exactly happen...

but I don't believe she's not there for free breakfast!! [laugh]

anyway, she should be understanding also that since the restaurant is crowded, it could be inconvenient to have the dog there..

Maybe upon ordering her hashbrown and coffee, she would ask for one free mcmuffinn

Ok my view whatever dog it is, I think its better for her not to bring her guide dog into the shop/restaurant.

If she with her friend, she could ask her friend to buy for her or guide her inside while leaving the dog outside.

Dont try to use her blindness in order to get what she want.

Looking at the news and pictures of her guide dog I think one area she can improve on is to make it more apparent its a guide dog, comparing Esma's pictures and those on the internet for guide dogs its not very apparent.

1st pic is Esma, 2nd is some random internet pic

Seems like where ever she goes, when there's an incident, there's bound to be people scolding her or cursing her.

I say, she's a smart woman. Most probably baited the person to scold her. Some people does have this skills to make the worst out of other people.

Well played...Well played...

What the...?

Ok. If let's say I'm a blind woman who need to shop for clothes...I would bring a lady friend to accompany me to do the shopping...not my guide dog for obvious reasons.

As far as I could remember most staff of this said shops are Malays that includes the security staff. As we know they do not like dogs for obvious reasons. I dunno, I long time no shop there.

IMO the world doesn't revolve around Esme's mom. She cannot expect everyone to give in to her just coz she has disability. I believe respect is a two way street. She can't expect everything to go her way lah.
