I don't understand the system then.

 

Considering that the relief driver already needs to register with Uber.... why can't they pay direct?

 

I think because:

 

- Relief driver only applicable for LCR renters

- For LCR the system is that the rental is deducted from the earnings. So everything goes through the main hirer/driver.

 

I think if you drive Uber with LCR you kinda have to drive every day, otherwise you won't earn anything, hence they allow relief drivers.

Yep, uber won't know what kind is rental agreement is between the main and relief driver so they let the 2 of them sort it out themselves. They just want to make sure they can deduct the rental from the earnings.

 

One person renting and driving not easy to earn so yes, with a relief driver to split the rental, it's easier to earn.

It's a classic tale of betrayal with a modern twist: a torrid affair leads to a broken marriage... after it was all uncovered by some unexplained app notifications. 
 
When a businessman in southern France was caught hitching rides to rendezvous with his extramarital lover, he decided to blame Uber and file a lawsuit against the ride-hailing company, French newspaper Le Figaro reported Wednesday.
 
The alleged cheater, whose name was not disclosed in court documents obtained by the paper, blamed a "glitch" in the app for outing him. The man claimed he once logged into his Uber account on his wife's iPhone, but even after he logged out, her device continued to receive push notifications from his profile. Every time he took an extracurricular love trip, he claims she was pinged, which led her to confront him about the alleged affair and their eventual divorce.
 
Le Figaro said it was able to recreate the glitch in tests, but only on iPhones running the Uber app before its Dec. 15 software update. Android devices were not affected. 
 
Following the breakup, the man turned on Uber, filing suit for 45 million Euros ($47.8 million) in damages for two-timing him. 
 
"The bug has caused him problems in his private life," the man's lawyer told the AFP news service, because his client apparently has no appreciation for irony. 
 
Uber France declined to comment to Le Figaro about the case, citing privacy concerns. Reps from the company had no response to Mashable's request for comment.
 
Two-timers, take heed: If you're going to cheat, you should probably steer clear of services that give your partner a digital alarm bell every time you sneak off to do the dirty. Just a thought.

Taken for a ride in private-hire scam

 

It was an attractive deal that was too good to pass on.

 

For $888, passengers who opted for private-hire car rides with Grab or Uber could redeem 128 trips. This worked out to about $6.90 a ride - regardless of distance travelled and with no expiry date on the rides.

 

A private-hire car passenger who wanted only to be known as Ms Ong, 24, took the bait and bought the "Grab/Uber promotional package" with her sister and cousin, after hearing about it last month.

 

However, after using the package for about a month, the undergraduate soon discovered it was a scam after the "operator" they were supposed to book their rides with stopped answering their texts and calls last Wednesday.

 

"Before purchasing, I thought it was a scam but my sister's friend who introduced it to us had been using the service. That's why we decided to buy it," said Ms Ong, who made a police report on Monday.

 

At least eight other victims have made reports about the bogus "Grab/Uber promotional packages" since last week, said a police spokesman in an advisory released yesterday. Victims lost at least $7,700 through the scam with one victim paying a total of $1,300.

The bogus deal was promoted through a message stating there was a Chinese New Year promotion package for private-hire car services, and those interested could contact an "operator" via WhatsApp. They were then instructed to transfer money to bank accounts to purchase the packages.
 
However, after making payments, victims were not able to redeem the rides and the seller became uncontactable.
 
Ms Ong said, for about four weeks, the "package" seemed like the real deal.

"The service worked well, and we took about 16 rides in total before he suddenly went missing.

 

"We thought it was another maintenance issue, but when my sister contacted her friend, we realised that the 'operator' might have run away," she added.

 

Victims of the scam have set up a WhatsApp group to pool together their experiences. There are about 200 members so far.

 

Responding to queries, a Grab spokesman said it is assisting authorities in investigations and also advised users to refer to official Grab sources for promotional information.

 

An Uber spokesman said it will assist the authorities in investigations. She added that Uber promotions are typically conducted within the app, and for safety and security, users are encouraged to use Uber products or services via the app.

 

The police also advise members of the public to purchase rides only from official sources and to always exercise caution when purchasing items at prices that sound too good to be true.

you know that there is no other promo code than the one offer by Uber/Grab which probably give you $3-$5 max, who would give a fixed rate per trip regardless of distant?

Sometimes scammer and scammee is fated to meet each other in the same orbit one.

 

Just like few years back got fake MacDonalds vouchers. Also people believe.

scammers always have it easy with singaporeans.. just prey on their greed or cheapskateness

 

sure can find a few suckers no matter how silly the scheme is

I am here to post that pte hire is good. My mum together with another 2 adults took from tiong bahru to TTH and it cost them $8 only. Morning around 7am. Her first time taking such pte hire and she kept singing praises. Likely those conventional taxi just lose another regular customer.

depends on surge at different peak peeiod.

 

i have book uber to pick up my mum from one point to another without me around. i also use comfort which is cheaper at peak period but she has to pay cash.

Depends on the surcharge also. Sometimes it is also not cheap to take pte hire, so not necessary cheap for every trip.

i have book uber to pick up my mum from one point to another without me around. i also use comfort which is cheaper at peak period but she has to pay cash.

Ok thanks. I will let her know. She pay cash agreed fare to that driver anyway.

Uber, Grab to pay for drivers' vocational licences

 

 

Ride-hailing firms Uber and Grab said yesterday they will fully absorb the estimated $250 cost of a new vocational licence their drivers will have to start applying for from Monday.

 

To help their drivers, they have also set up websites to process the applications, which will be submitted to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

 

The moves are an apparent bid by Uber and Grab to ensure they do not lose drivers because of the new licensing regime.
