$30 fine i think. But most drivers do indicate or signal you if you fail to notice that your headlight isnt on

So far about out of 5 cars I high beam, only 1 car turn on their lights. Think must go beside them and wave.

Interesting on the last statement. Meaning it would be very close like tailgating. However it only applies to front lamp if you are the tailgater. Rear lamp still needs to be on.

If I'm not wrong driving without headlights on is a fine of $30? Actually when you stop at traffic light and a car is in front of you, it is quite obvious to know your headlights is on or not. There's indicator in the instrumental cluster also. Lights not on, no indicator displayed.

And also, driving with fog lights on is illegal in Singapore. Only unless condition seriously reduced visibility which is quite rare except serious haze or super duper heavy downpour.

Lamps to be lit during hours of darkness

5.—(1) When any motor vehicle is in motion during the hours of darkness on a length of road, every lamp required to be carried by the motor vehicle by virtue of these Rules shall be kept lit.

(2) Every headlamp of a vehicle shall, when lit under paragraph (1), emit a dipped beam if —

(a)

there are on the road along which the vehicle is moving street lamps placed not more than 150 metres from each other; and

(b)

the lamps are lit.

(3) For the purposes of this rule, it shall not be necessary for the front lamps of a vehicle to be kept lit if the vehicle is being drawn by another and the distance between the two vehicles is less than 1½ metres.

Most drivers look at the entire dashboard to decide if their headlights are switched on or not. They don't notice the indicators.

In older cars, dashboard has no light unless you switch on at least the parking lights. Hence the most common issue last time is cars with only parking lights on at night.

Now newer cars have dashboard illuminated by default. The most common issue now is cars with totally no headlights on at all. Even worse when the car is new enough to have illuminated dashboard, but not new enough or low spec model so don't have daytime running lights. Add on black colour and you have a huge moving shadow with a clueless driver.

So many cars nowadays have auto headlights, please set to auto and leave it there for everyone's safety. Headlights only cost $200 and can use for many years.

Most cars you high beam they give middle finger hahaha.

Ya, no point being helpful. Later other driver think you want to fight and start tailgating you with high beam on.

High beams generally doesnt work because they wont know what you mean as High beam can mean many things. You should go along side if possible and clench and open your fist most drivers will then understand.

Shud flash them

i see at least 3-5 cars driving without headlight on every night. all are new car model.

i will always tried to catch their attention, wave and use hand signal to warn the driver.

i realised, most of these kuku drivers have too much to think in their head and they

were usually paid less attention to their surrounding.

just like my boss, he drives a very expensive car with all the nice features. but most

of the time when he is driving, either he is talking to his directors in the cabin or

talking on his hands free. his mind was only about (BIZ BIZ BIZ) while driving,

turning and changing lane without signal, hogging lane 1 on hw. taking up 2 parking

space and etc.... [hur]

some ppl just have too much to bother in life that they just neglected what surrounding them.

Actually some drivers with cars that comes with auto headlight don't wanna use that also. What I heard before is the lights lifespan is reduced cos on and off so many times especially travelling thru dimmed or dark area.

I think it greatly saves life/ reduces accidents especially. Should comes as standard feature which cannot be changed

Hi bros. Singapore roads are so well lit as we all know. Sometimes you won't realise that you didn't turn on your headlights/tailights at night after switching your headlights/tailights off. This is actually common in Singapore.

But how much is the fine for committing this mistake? Or is there any demerit points?

Merged here.

One pair of headlights only $200. One crash could be $2000. A case of penny wise pound foolish driver?

I agree that switching on headlights for safety reasons is the right thing to do.... but I think you need to be updated : a pair of original LED headlights on even a Toyota Altis will cost thousands of dollars. I know cos I) I deliberately asked the salesperson when I test drove it 2 years back; and II) my colleague had to repair her Altis after an accident. The workshop charges will be $2-3k for the headlights.

The cheong type of LED headlights will be cheaper but they won't last - that's the painful lesson my collleague learned.
