Jman888 Moderator June 7, 2015 Share June 7, 2015 Not saying this on hindsight. when I heard primary school children were there, I really thought they were only hiking around the KK National Park. I was shocked to find out not only did they climb the mountain, they chose to take the most difficult abseiling Ferrata route down. Most adults didn't even choose the route. And no, I will NOT send my young child to climb Mt KK on his own. I am not saying this on hindsight. So parents have to ask themselves, did they do the necessary DD before signing the consent? Did they know their kids will be taking the Ferrata route down when their legs are already weak? Or were there some complacency and lack of interest in the child's activities, however risky it might be? It is easy to sugar coat and blame God and bad karma, but I think in this case, perhaps the parents themselves have to take some responsibility. In life, it is easy to externalise and blame others like fate and God and bad karma. I notice those writing in in strong support of continued Mt KK climb for young children are those who have never climbed the mountain themselves. Climbing mountain and doing extreme sports can wait when you are older and ready to sign your own indemnity form. The news reported that they did not take the hardest route up. Ender Hypersonic June 7, 2015 Share June 7, 2015 (edited) I really heart pain for those children who bore thr brunt of mother nature. But did they really know what the chldren doing in Kota Kinabalu mountain? Christ, those are 12yr old kid and who in the right of mind would send their child of these young age to do extreme sport like mountain climbing? I thought such activities are solely meant or suitable for older student as in JC or Uni undergrad. Have the parents or sch ever thougth of of they met the anger of mother nature and its following act, would the guides and teacher fend for those poor children? I am talking about high up on those mountains and there is risk everywhere. The weather, the temperature, the altitude atmosphersperic pressure, and also the danger of getting hypothermia if got lost or trap onto of the mountains. Sighzz... Guess we parents are too naive or ignorant to even consider all these unforeseen danger before we sign the consent & indenmity form. Now little precious life is lost...... In terms of fitness and challenges, it's within the capabilites of the chosen 12 yrs old who are trained beforehand. As the same camp and hike had been organised successfully before several rounds . What misfortune happened here is not due lack of training or fitness, but the unforeseen natural disaster. Even a experienced and well fit mountain climber would have met his misfortune by being at the wrong place and wrong time. Evillusion Supersonic June 7, 2015 Share June 7, 2015 Read somewhere about the bravery of one of the teacher who had saved several of the students but when out to save the others but lost his life. Saw the pictures of his newborn and 2 other children......sad day indeed! He could have used his newborn as an excuse not to go....he could have save himself by just staying with the students he saved and protected. A kind soul who died protecting and saving others. May god bless these souls!

May god bless these souls! I agree. I mean with rocks flying around, natural instinct is to take cover. I mean even just a orange sized rock is enough to kill a man. Takes real courage to do what needed to be done.

Lala81 Hypersonic June 7, 2015 Share June 7, 2015 some policies exclude Acts of God though Then what's the point of buying such policies? I thought only acts of war can be considered null? (like say flying to yemen and getting killed there when the country is at war).
Pinobii Hypersonic June 7, 2015 Share June 7, 2015 I hope the school bought the mid or upper tier maximum travel insurance protection for them. Hope they brought all the important insurances such as term life, work-injury insurance, employer liability insurance and etc Except for term life which can cover regardless of reason, not sure if can claim for causes attributed by natural disaster Even if don't have, MOE should take care of his family This man died saving the children and this is beyond his call of duty He has such a kind heart

Our condolences is not enough. We share your grief and pain. P/s now the consent slip is ever more difficult to sign. First you cannot type proper english, now you cannot even read. If you read the antecedent parts, it was ANOTHER forummer lamenting on the routes and Jman was just replying what was put in the press, re, the routes Really, if you are not able to comprehend nor communicate, pls refrain from any posting lest you create miscomms unnecessarily. that said, your pm to me on observing and not posting has not been honored. Any more nonsense, and this account will be done for too. Thank you In order to maintain the sanity among the forummers here, I will be forced to close this thread if forummers do not wish to respect the atmosphere and insist on their own rights. there are other forums like HWZ and SBF that would welcome you in this period.
