Runforyourlife 5th Gear January 8, 2016 Share January 8, 2016 Altis Standard seems to be the best deal now at $96K if you assume that BM will get COE and deliver the car eventually.Heck even the feature rich elegance is attractive. Rebate 47k is also quite a good indication of the next Coe bidding Disparity? Sorry, but 10K differences between Cat A and Cat B sounds right to me, in fact should be more. Why let the rich buy cars with the same base tax (COE) as the poor? The convergence of Cat A with Cat B would be consider a policy failure given the original goals of Cat A. Right. Cat B should fluctuate around 80-100k while cat A around 40-50k. Oh wait, there's tons of peeps whom can't afford if it's set this way, since most cars fall into cat B.
Limwsv 5th Gear January 8, 2016 Share January 8, 2016 Thanks bro! Do you know where can I get the exact quota quantity? My car due in 1 year time so wanna do some homework. From here.... http://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/publications-and-research.html No one even LTA will know the exact numbers because each owner decide to scrap/renew and how early or late they will do it. We all only can guesstimate from cars reaching 10 year old. http://www.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/ltaweb/corp/PublicationsResearch/files/FactsandFigures/M01-03M-Age.pdf
_h_r_ 2nd Gear January 8, 2016 Share January 8, 2016 That's list price? Before Toyota loyalty discount? Loan discount? Whatever discount Toyota wants to give you to induce you to buy the car? No that is final price after all discounts. Absolutely no further discounts or freebies, not a single cent. Heck even the feature rich elegance is attractive. Rebate 47k is also quite a good indication of the next Coe bidding Right. Cat B should fluctuate around 80-100k while cat A around 40-50k. Oh wait, there's tons of peeps whom can't afford if it's set this way, since most cars fall into cat B. For Altis, rebate is at $40K which makes me wonder if buyers will get the car if COE increases. Use that to predict coe. Thanks... sorry not going to listen to you ... Limwsv 5th Gear January 8, 2016 Share January 8, 2016 (edited) Ok noted. It basing on number of cars that registered in 10 years + 3 months ago quantity plus the 0.5% increment of COE quality? No. Number of cars register between now to 10 years ago and being scrapped 3 months ago. Of course, given that most owners had held on for 8 - 10 years, the bulk of scraps are coming from those registered between 8 - 10 years ago. Less those that have scrapped along the way. That's why it cannot be precise. Itchy backside end up selling car for new car now, as many have repeated here. AS some have said here, those sold 8 - 10 years cars has gone to Uber and its ilk, so those will really be used up to their last days. Then there are those 80K - 90K COE and those rich people who change cars every 2 - 3 years, those are also being scrapped. So, you guess is as good as mine how many COEs will be available in the next year. Edited January 8, 2016 by Limwsv

Why let the rich buy cars with the same base tax (COE) as the poor? The convergence of Cat A with Cat B would be consider a policy failure given the original goals of Cat A. Agree with you that Cat A & Cat B should have at least $10k difference, if not more. But i don't agree it's a policy failure when it is not - it is simply businesses adjusting to market conditions. In this case, the lux brands bringing in models to cater to the "B&B" segment. Nothing wrong with that. They retain their "proper" models for Cat B and bring in entry level for Cat A. In a way this has some benefit to consumers too - consumers aspiring to own a lux brand no longer need to fork out lux-level amounts of money. You could say these are the "ECs" of the car industry? Blackyv Turbocharged January 8, 2016 Share January 8, 2016 Think given the world stock market situation, Cat-A got Zharn but Cat-B I am not so sure. Seems like the rich are assembling in Singapore and continuing to buy new cat-B cars....dropped $81 nia in last round. Amazing disparity wrt Cat-A my view on cat-b taking is weak... last round was a 5K drop and yet no spike with cat-b buyer and yet drop slightly this round means even with "large" drop, no increase in buyer.. same goes for cat-a this round... if,i mean IF next round show just a slight increase (~1K) or even remains the same 45K range after a 9K dropped means buyer dry up already.... that will signal a down spiral ahead....next round is very crucial....

If the coe quota is also high between May till Jul then ho say liao! The high quota window period need at least 6 months to get low coe prices.
