Deividz 5th Gear February 1, 2016 Share February 1, 2016 They are known to the industry as "Crocodile Workshops." Usually they assist to help victims to do paperwork, while ensuring them that they do not have to pay a cent. I have encountered one before after being hit by a Sembcorp truck. Everything was done professionally. Usually they will only take on cases that they are confident of claiming. Not a scam but maybe not what most people will do when they get into an accident.
Si4dr 6th Gear February 1, 2016 Share February 1, 2016 My car also got sandwiched last year. The "friendly helper" also appear just shortly after the accident. Same offer as TS. They did engaged lawyer to handle my case. Not a single cent paid, NCD not affected. Take about 5 mths to fully case close thou.
Prataboy 3rd Gear February 1, 2016 Share February 1, 2016 Hmm....according to the Barometer of Liability (BOLA) Scenario 28 for chain collisions, the driver of the vehicle behind will be 100% liable for losses incurred by the vehicle immediately in front only. Which means that in the case of the OP, there might be a problem to claim under 3rd party?

Which means that in the case of the OP, there might be a problem to claim under 3rd party? I thought normally the one at the farthest back of chain collision assume most responsibility anyway, ya, you should have already had alarm bells when some fellow offer to help you with everything. Demand his identity, his backing co., etc., find out everything. Then call your own insurance officer anyway. Now that you have not reported in due time, your insurer will sure give you problems too. Where got so good, offer free replacement car, repair your car, cover everything...
Othello Supersonic February 1, 2016 Share February 1, 2016 No guys... I may sound naive but I really don't know of such happenings. I genuinely thought it was a workshop person who passed by. Till I start searching into this forum. The repairs have not started, can I still pull plug out of this deal? Only reason for me to choose this workshop over the authorized was due to the lead time. Yes now I agree this is additional headache. usually the lead time is short cos they only do the superficial. Things you can't see, maybe they anyhow repair ...... you never know They can't stop you. If your insurance already stated that any repair can only be done at their authorized ws, then beta take your car out. Any repair done may not be claimable since the repair was not done at their authorized ws. not true, authorised workshop is only for Own Damage claim to my knowledge. Third party claim from be anywhere.

Gonna try pulling my car out or get them to black and white only approved claim they can do. Or they bear full cost if not approved. But my so call helper MIA getting angry saying "bro trust me". Why no trust me. U can pull out BUT: 1) you most probably have to pay them for whatever they gave you "free" e.g. replacement car ... 2) They will try all means to stop you becos if you pull out, it means a big loss to them ... their profits from this "help service" can be a few thousand $$$$
Carnoob Supercharged February 2, 2016 Share February 2, 2016 not true, authorised workshop is only for Own Damage claim to my knowledge. Third party claim from be anywhere. oh really har, I don't know because I understand it's both ways... own damage and third party claim. That's why I always got the premium insurance whereby I can go anywhere for repair.
Keira 4th Gear February 2, 2016 Share February 2, 2016 These workshops normally get massive income from all these accident claims by submitting new parts cost when claiming while using re-cond parts. My vehicle was involved in an accident with a truck & tailgate+rear windscreen is damaged. These workshops then offered to help me claim the bugger successfully. But in the end I found out that they used a re-cond tailgate set together with rear windscreen & resprayed it with my vehicle colour. Overall is not bad at least they didn't reuse the damaged parts back as the re-cond parts are original from japan, who knows using back the old tailgate I may face water leaks in future. And I believe all workshops over here are the same whether is authorised by insurance co or not, they will try their means to use re-cond parts & report as new parts to max their profit. Cwong2910 2nd Gear February 2, 2016 Share February 2, 2016 (edited) You should just ensure that 1) any repairs done are fully paid by insurance after deducting excess (OD or Third Party) , Surveyor need to come down and approve the repair cost. Car workshop can inflate only to a certain extent. Too much and the insurance company will reject them. 2) The damaged parts are fully repaired to working condition. If your car is old, don't expect them to replace with new parts. Don't worry about their profits or whether they are using recon parts or not. And don't worry that these inflated claims will affect insurance premiums for the general market as the surveyor must survey the damage and approve the quoted repair cost before workshop can proceed. On your part just make sure the accident report shows the actual damage and don't allow them to create "new" damage to get more repairs done. Some greedy car owners will work the workshops to get their slightly damaged parts (not due to that accident) replaced for free. For third party claim, it can get messy and the car workshop need to fork out money in advance to fight the case hence they will of course markup more because this affects their cash flow. My suggestion to TS just let the "helper" workshop complete the job. Unless you have a very close trusted workshop that handle third party claims, chances are they will pull the same stunt as this "helper" workshop. Anyway close, trusted friends can also betray you nowadays for money. Just do things with eyes wide open. Junesh1983 1st Gear February 5, 2016 Author Share February 5, 2016 Just an update to the bros: My car was with Fastech aka Kim Chwee. Whatever sounds too good to be true turned out to be really true. From the accident to helping with the paper works and getting immediate replacement car and handling all insurance negotiations. After two days, my insurance called to say the ws have done proper accident reports and also ensured me that my NCD and excess will not be touched as based on the reports lodged it was clear it was not my fault and I was sandwiched due to last car drag me forward. Was a big relief since my Car Cam was not working. The uncle (ws owner) told me that since I need my car urgently they will prioritize and complete within one week during festive period. Went down to see the repairs, they practically welded one car to the back and welded another to the front and repainted whole car. As for repairs, they follow the surveyor's feedback before engage repairs. Within one week they settled the car and yesterday night deliver to my doorstep with very good job done. For end user like me I don't care if 'friendly helper' take a small middle man fee from the ws but he guide me through the whole procedure. I was also suspecting the jam that causes the accident maybe was simulated since another thread mentioned this, but learned that it was due to the oil spill that day causing the jam that got me involved (so that can't be simulated). Met the bro that crashed onto me today and for him NTUC said his car will only be look into after CNY. Based on my whole experience I have only learned: 1) Very very important to have proper 'WORKING' car cam. 2) Ensure Insurance allows repairs in ANY workshops. 3) Not 100% of the time everyone try to cheat you. Sometimes can trust. Thanks to all bros who gave me good suggestions here.

Nzy Twincharged February 5, 2016 Share February 5, 2016 (edited) a**hole got you into an accident in which you could have died and you are still saying you don't mind him getting his cut? Please wake up. Actually, how do you know it is staged? It can be just the workshop waiting at accident prone areas to get business. The workshop I helped out at do this also. They station one of their tow-trucks at the accident prone area and wait since the tow truck might be just sitting around at the carpark doing nothing anyway.
