Congrats to Portugal. They definitely learned a lot from that defeat to Greece. That sometimes to win you have to get a good coach so that the team is tactically good, defenively tight and win ugly :D

France didn't have the fitness level to continue playing in extra-time. It was clear the players are tired and are playing for a penalty shootout. 

 

France should also have won the game during normal time. They didn't take their chances.

in 2004, Portugal was led by their golden generation (Figo, Rui Costa, Couto, Pauleta) but couldn't beat a minnow Greece

 

now, Portugal's only real star is CR7 (Pepe, Nani, Quaresma are all average players now) and they won a very good French team

in 2004, Portugal was led by their golden generation (Figo, Rui Costa, Couto, Pauleta) but couldn't beat a minnow Greece

 

now, Portugal's only real star is CR7 (Pepe, Nani, Quaresma are all average players now) and they won a very good French team

in football ... besides players ... the team also need luck

france had a few opportunities to score and the goal post also help to save Portugal

I believe that all this big transfer fee had cause some players to head swell and not in the right frame of mind to play all out for risk of injuries which in pound wise, lowered their value .. :yuush:

 

Proba is one of those who's mind was not settle on ManU or Real Madrid. Imagine a 100 million pound carrot hanging in front of you.. :wacko:

 

All football associations should suspend transfer of players six week before any major tournament. This would help to settle the mind of players. :pissed-off:

As much as  I hate to say it, Pepe is one of the defenders of the tournament. He was a Mt Everest sized rock !! Dunno why he play so dirty in La Liga, he clearly is a very good player 

 

Fonte was good too. The pairing of Pepe and Fonte really good defensive line up.

 

Portugal was playing the wait and counter-attack tactic. They kept playing the ball in defense, waiting for France to come at them. I never seen a player standing at the by line and shouting instructions to the players with the manager like what CR did during extra time. He looks like a assistant manager!!!

 

Really kudos to Portugal for the win.

It's only at the Euros where an outsider can go on to win the tournament. Fair play to Portugal who overcame the loss of Ronaldo to win the trophy. They were determined to prove they were no one man team so credit to them for being able to do so.

 

At the World Cup, it is different, no outsider has ever won it and it will normally go to the a top 5 team at the very least. Portugal was no. 8 and France even worse at no. 17 but that likely cos they didn't play any competitive games since the last WC till this Euros as they were automatic qualifiers.

 

Roll on World Cup in Russia!!

No, all football associations should pay transfer fees to clubs for using the players  [laugh]

Ronaldo desire and emotion win over my uptmost respect for him.

 

You could virtually feel his passion and desire to win.

 

Being a hardcore liverpool fan he changed my stance from hate to neutral to like.

 

Now his my fav ex man utd player after ryan giggs.

 

 

Portugal GK also pull off a few great save to keep his team in the game. Overall great tactics and execution from the portuguese team.

Can see that this thread proceeded really slowly after the match (average 1 post every 45 minutes after the match finished at 5.15am)

 

Must be a lot of people feeling down after losing $$$

saw his video of an interview before, he said he hate the feeling of losing. he will do everything he could to win everything. everything!

Generally majority of bettors lose. Law of statistics apply.

 

As usual the banker like SP and "intermediaries" laugh all the way to the bank.

 

There are of course some lucky ones who are now quietly sipping beer or whatever, smiling with their winnings.
