Some small penny pinching - not a big deal, but that's how Toyota saves $$:

- only 6 months road tax

- no USB in the armrest

- no pedal shifts

- no rain sensor in the base model

- no shopping hooks

- fewer 12v points than other lux cars

- no Carplay

- 1 year servicing free now

 

 

But you enjoy the savings too I guess, when you compare it to the Lexus cousins or the Conti rivals...

True but at this pricing I think we cannot ask for more already... Considering the PI units sold at 140-15xK .. BM Harrier is value for money I would say..

They have tactic to charge u more so they have more commission. Everything little thing change and charge alot for parts.

Quite sure the low OMV and low price is to get u to buy...once u buy u will be on drugs...take back or profit from the sevicing.

Also to get these low OMV....the car is almost 100% locally fitted.

Just read through the new brochure, it comes with vehicle stability control with ABS & EBD, will that help in preventing skidding during wet weather like the poor chap that died in uber car at Xilinx avenue?

All these ABS & EBD & VSC are decade old tech, no big deal.

 

The in thing now is collision mitigation that helps you do emergency brake and blindspot sensors. Does the harrier have it?

 

Anyway No amount of safety features can save one if he drive like an idiot...

Last time I was with BM was a good 3-4 years ago.....from the glowing review and show of support for their service plus the fact that they had a recent change in management, I thought something has changed during this period....

 

Anyway, based on my ownership experience, if one place reliability above all else, Toyota/Lexus is the way to go. That said, with such reliable products to sell and to give aftersale support to is not as difficult or onerous as those AD supporting french/conti makes.

Yup mgt changed, service centre closed, staff reduced. But more cars are sold. Corners will have to be cut? Cost got to come down? Service staff got to do more...so let wait and see. Later like VW episode. Booking the appt is an adventure itself.

But will be removed or cut off to be competitive in local mkt. Like those cars with 2 air bags? So for safety...will have to take a 2nd seat. Especially budget rides...all cut...so all these upper tier safety...got to wait...cos nobody gonna pay $180k for a loaded Harrier.

Only things on that list I am interested in are USB at armrest and CarPlay.

I recall that the preview unit had the radar, I'm not sure about the final retail batch. The specifications lists provided by users so far have all mentioned Toyota Safety Sense with collision mitigation, which would make it one of the few cars in this price bracket to offer the function besides the Mondeo or the Astra 1.4ST. Even better NX200t if that's the case.

Actually the MFA platform cars from Merc and IIRC the 216d should have such collision prevention features too.

216d & 218i's version uses only a camera. I'm not sure whether our MFA cars CPA+ use LIDAR or RADAR but should be emblem mounted RADAR.

 

However those are all smaller than D segment.

Precisely that's why this harrier turbo is a complete/balance car to get rather than the forester xt if budget allows it rather than keep harping on that power lag of harrier

Bro, of course you cannot be buying a Merc and asking BM to service. We'll need to talk about BM and their cars on the overall. For me, Altis upgrade to Camry then to Lexus.....who knows, next maybe RX or GS or LX but it can also be Mercs or others unless not satisfied on the overall.

When I send my E200 in for servicing, I get coffee and croissants; then wait for bus to send me to the MRT. Sending my wife's NX200T in for servicing, I get laksa and juice; then they took me in an ES300h to Wheelock. Another interesting fact is I am sitting amongst drivers at the C&C Pandan Loop service centre and they know the pantry lady on a first name basis. Overall, I still feel that BM is a notch higher in terms of service - Not sure if I will also change to Toyota.

Bros, I am more referring to the Standard Operating Procedures that BM has and their willingness to help on the SA about your issues and request.

 

My last service, after I went in and waited, I told them I needed the car by 12 to pick up a client and they had someone follow thru to ensure that. Try doing this at MI.....haha.

 

At the same time, my friend regret buying the car of another friend for renewal of COE as second car. This seller has never had the attitude to send his car to AD......he claims outside servicing also the same but cheaper. After deal with my friend, my friend ended up scrapping the car cos too much hidden repairs needed.  

 

I am sure my SE dare take in my Camry for his sister as he know the history of my servicing and condition.

I wondered you send car for servicing for send yourself for servicing.
