Wow, just got your new ride for less then 48 hrs and already ramming it?

For turbo, max torque comes early.

Don't have to redline it to get ahead of others.

Yeah, beyond the first travel, just press on a bit more, and it comes.

It's unlike the old Volvos or Subarus, where there is an all or nothing effect.. the new generation LPTs are almost seamless in their application of the turbo.

For some, that's a minus point I guess, they enjoy the rush from the wall of torque from the old turbos of yore..

He drives a 5-series, maybe his expectation was more white-gloved treatment. His complain was the sales lady was not proactive, maybe not responding to his questions because busy collecting cheques.

Now BM got overwhelming response, they are more take it or leave it - the success has made probably them complacent... for the SEs probably all met quota already.

Volvo is rip-off most of the time.

Volvo is not on Toyota's tier. They are more level with BMW and Mercedes in terms of luxury. If you consider Volvo a rip-off, do you think the same of Lexus?

But of course, somehow Volvo's image is different. Just safety. Not luxury. And because they are small volume compared to the rest, they do not hold well for various reasons.

For the rush of back against seat during speed-off, get a Porsche.

Volvo cars are good but overpriced. Hopefully prices head south when they are all made in china

Swedish cars are engineered differently and to a different level of luxury... and we will not be likely to get Chinese made ones, our Volvos will probably remain Swedish for time to come.

I think they do justify their price premium. The S90 T5 mentioned is a E-class competitor but is cheaper, you know.

I owned a Lexus GS300 before, drove for 3 years without even a minor issue and traded in for a fantastic price! So no, I don't think Lexus is a rip-off. :D

That will remain Lexus' advantage I suppose. Value remains and generally problem free. Not a reputation Volvo enjoys here.

At least Volvo has a better reputation than VW which is just brutal, my friend's VW Golf already need to be towed two times in the last 3 years.

Most of the new turbos don't slam you with a torque wave, especially since they usually give max torque as low as 1,800rpm as opposed to say 2,400RPM (like mine, which really shoves you back when flooring from crawl) so they can feel a lot closer (more "linear") to a really gutsy non-turbo. But as opposed to a proper big engine they can feel "breathless" at the limit of the rev range.

So don't be afraid, just drive 'em normally and you'll probably find that they don't need much learning curve apart from being quicker off the mark.

I think Volvo have announced that all manufacturing will movr to China

That official time is rather impressive, it is seemingly quicker than the FXT's official post, perhaps because the torque has a small 5Nm advantage but a few hundred revs earlier. Heck, my car's official time is higher than that.

But the top speed at 180km/h suggests it still has a JDM-style limiter on. Shouldn't be a problem for the general driver though.

bro, it cannot be faster than Fxt lah as confirmed by someone who tested both cars twice

Note I say official numbers

Because I recall that FXT's official spec is 7.9s (same as mine)

I just check the sgCarMart, FXT is 7.5s, so officially still a tad slower than Harrier Turbo.

You should try the current merc 2.0t engines. Max torque at 1,200rpm remain flat till 4,000+rpm.

The linearity of the power delivery will not loss out to a 3.5v6. I think helped in no small part by the close ratio 9G-tronic.

The availabity of torque so early in the rpm is such that I do not miss the acceleration of my old GS450h as much as I thought I would.

Anybody know if the lane departure alert functions well in raining condition?

For that matter, does it work well during a rainy night where the roads becomes reflective due to the water on the road surfaces and the lane markings are hard to see?

Cheers

As mentioned by other Bros here, have not rammed yet and holding back feet to allow time for engine to "settle in". Imagine 2-3 weeks later

Are you sure it is linear when you slam throttle?

:XD:
