Harrier 2017

I think a $20k differentiation between PI and AD can swing some buyers to PI.

I guess most buyers common worry on PI are

1) will PI close shop?

2) servicing.

3) warranty.

4) recall (rare).

5) "Unknown" admin fee.

Apart from price, better specs is one other reason why some choose PI (the BMWs, Mercedes Benz)

But seems like the Harrier Turbo brought in by BM full loaded....

Still boils down to price if we are talking about contis.

Japanese/korean (even premium Japs like Lexus/Infiniti) don't practice customer accessible option list.

Contis usually have a full list of options for you to choose when you place your order.

Caveat is longer waiting time for special indents (added options over and on top of the specs the AD brought in)

If you are going to spec up the ADs units to match the PIs, can be done, just that be prepared to pay more and wait longer.

All car glass are usually UV cut these days. Just try a pair of "Transistion Lens" spectacles inside the car and you will know the amount of UV reaching the cabin is cut down to the minimum (ie. the lens don't turn dark)

Some manufacturer will have the heavier tint (lower visible light transmissibility) options for the rear half of the car.

There are usually regulations for the VLT of the car which differs from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

Sunroof is exempted from such regulation.

If you tint it too dark, defeats the purpose of having a sunroof in the first place.

Might as well never open the inside cover.

The mantra seems to be - "If you can't beat them...then join them".

During my visits to the BM showroom, I have seen and heard folks discussing with their SEs on trading in their Harrier NA cars for new Harrier Turbo.  Yes, due to BM's price-it-right strategy for new Harrier Turbo, one has to endure the lousy resale prices for the NA cars bought at high prices from PIs. One time pain for longer term (10 yrs?) gain, I suppose.

Coming back to profit margin, you can check One Motoring Website.

https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/onemotoring/en/lta_information_guidelines/buy_a_new_vehicle/car_cost/_jcr_content/main_par/download/file.res/Car_Cost_Update.pdf

Of course Harrier Turbo is not in the list yet,

You can use other model to gauge

Example

Toyota Previa Aeras (row 267 in the list)

OMV $34,489k

COE $50,110

SP: $162k

Profit: $17,169k

Harrier Turbo (Luxury)

OMV $35,700 (July batch registration)

COE: $50,001 (19th July)

SP: $160k (now price)

Profit: you gauge yourself

Yes. I saw PI harrier cars park there.  one of plate is SKxxxxx.

So, assuming their COE is on the high side in 2014, 2015.

Now changing car probably is good timing.

I don't mean to bash PI harrier.

PI Harrier is still a very good car.

But they don't let me test drive (which is fortunate on hindsight).

So, I end up getting the BM harrier.

I mean better price with better specs, not like for like

129 vs 140.. not low enough IMO

At this level, I am not expecting marginal buyers..

Premium pricing only few thousands more from BM and is turbo so worth the price. But Elegance may be 17k difference.

The resale value will be non-existent.

A few hundred above paper and body value at best.

BM is evil..... :D

The PIs have lowered their prices to as low as $129K for the Harrier with ready stock and they still have CHR that BM have not brought in yet - some who cannot wait may be driven to get the PI.

We have to compare spec for spec otherwise will not be apples with apples comparisons.

Saw on sgcarmart that $129K is for the lowest spec variant i.e. 2.0 Grand (A). Very basic and entry level with lowest grade equipment level. Even then, the depreciation for this PI lowest spec is ~$12K.

Even if you take the highest spec cars from PIs, still cannot compare with BM's Harrier Turbo which has very high equipment lists. The value vs cost is evident.

Yep.. like the first batches of Vezels, they paid >120k for a basic model..

Now it's easy to spot which is a PI - all Borneo sold cars are turbocharged.

So it's a double whammy on service, engine and now selling price.. but if one can score a PI car for 120k or so, it will still be enticing ..

The resale value will be non-existent.

BM is evil..... :D

The new management is solid.. price it right, and not only do you whack the PIs, but in one fell swop, kill the competition in the form of the CX5 & CRV.

If not for the Harrier, we might have seen lower Cat B COE prices..
