Vratenza Supersonic July 23, 2017 Share July 23, 2017 Just to highlight that other the the declared power output, vehicle weight, drivetrain, transmission also comes into play in a coherent vehicle. Correct me if I remember wrongly, For Harrier Turbo, it weighs in at 1.6t, power is rated at 227bhp/350nm? 6AT. FWD. Zero to 100: 7.3s? GLC250 weighs 1.8t, power is 208bhp/350nm. 9AT. 4WD. Zero to 100: 7.3s. On paper, GLC is the heavier, lesser power car with power sapping 4WD, yet acceleration figures not much difference. I don't dispute that other factors matter too for overall performance including weight of driver ↡ Advertisement

Vratenza Supersonic July 23, 2017 Share July 23, 2017 Have not tested the new Q5 but I will not be surpised if it is fast off the block. Do audi still practice the add few k to software tune the car post delivery and still keep the factory warranty? Some day I might just finally get to own an audi.... But that will be after I try a bmw, porsche (not from Stuttgard) Only difference in one is a Merc.

By virtue of the fact that it's an SUV, the racing factor ought to be taken out of the equation altogether. In fact, that would be the case for most cars on our roads. 7hm Turbocharged July 23, 2017 Share July 23, 2017 Could be a misprint for harrier. The rated power from borneo's brochure is 227. Here they put 231 (prob the PS figure). Can also be conservative quoting. I would imagine under good conditions my vehicle had reach much closer to plain 7s. I recall AutoFrance quotes Peugeot 308 1.2 PureTech as a dismal 11.7s, but in real life conditions it can do it as low as 9.7s! The FXT is also probably faster feeling due to its setup - its torque does come in later which may produce more of a "slam" and perception of speed. I tested a 105hp diesel recently that made you feel like it was charging forward, but in reality it was only just hitting 60km/h. 231PS would roughly equal 227 horsepower yes. I thought the current Mini is using the Prince engine made by PSA not BMW - see link below. PSA also makes the engines for 316 and 318, like Nissan making engines for A-Class, B-Class and CLA. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_engine The Prince engine is a collaborative development between PSA and BMW. It does seem BMW provided technology hence why Citroen's 1.6THP is often described as a BMW engine... Zero to 100: 7.3s. On paper, GLC is the heavier, lesser power car with power sapping 4WD, yet acceleration figures not much difference. Could be the gearbox, or maybe there are less friction-inducing components along the drivetrain. I know my 6-speed automatic is probably one of the things severely cutting down my century sprint capability, compared to say the G30's 8-speed, which together from higher and earlier torque, gives it a quicker clocking, despite being more portly. The GLC you mention also has 4WD and it's not surprising for an AWD car to actually accelerate faster at the same power rating, even with lower overall power to the wheels, merely on the principle of traction...

You are right. I drove both FXT and Harrier Turbo, FXT felt faster and better handling, but speed wasn't what I was looking for in a SUV. Lawkoh 1st Gear July 23, 2017 Share July 23, 2017 (edited) In my opinion S$20k margin per car are a little thin. I think it's much much higher, not to mention support revenue following each sale. The recent move to muscle into this specific sector is clear indication of motive to kill of the PI. In one fell swoop, not only PI are impacted. Other car manufacturers must go back to the drawing board. Personally, I was considering other SUV, till I chances upon the Harrier Turbo. Unfortunately for other manufacturers, the impact may not be felt till the numbers come in the next few months. BM's current drawback is only the bloody long lengthy delivery time. Still trying to understand why my booking on the 30th June vs another bro's booking here on this forum on the 24th have lead delivery time to slipped to Oct. In my view this only indicate that the allocation to SG is rather limited... Coming back to profit margin, you can check One Motoring Website. https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/onemotoring/en/lta_information_guidelines/buy_a_new_vehicle/car_cost/_jcr_content/main_par/download/file.res/Car_Cost_Update.pdf Of course Harrier Turbo is not in the list yet, You can use other model to gauge Example Toyota Previa Aeras (row 267 in the list) OMV $34,489k COE $50,110 SP: $162k Profit: $17,169k Harrier Turbo (Luxury) OMV $35,700 (July batch registration) COE: $50,001 (19th July) SP: $160k (now price) Profit: you gauge yourself Edited July 23, 2017 by Lawkoh
