Even with insurance, driver also has problem claiming 3rd party liability.

Especially property damage.

SINGAPORE - Police are investigating an accident between two cyclists on Sunday (April 16) morning that resulted in one of them being hospitalised with a minor brain bleed.

In the early morning incident, Mr Andy Oh, 49, lost his balance and fell after cyclists from another group overtook his group along Upper Thomson Road towards Sembawang Road.

He was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

In a Facebook post on Sunday night, Mr Oh’s wife Serlina Eng said the accident was the result of “crazy cyclists deciding to let their egos get the better of them, ignoring the safety of others”.

In video footage from a camera attached to the back of Mr Oh’s bicycle and shared on social media, he is seen riding in a group with other cyclists, in two rows.

At 6.43am, according to the video’s time stamp, a larger group of cyclists races up to overtake the first group as it is reaching the traffic junction between Upper Thomson Road and Springleaf Road.

The cyclists in the second group are seen riding three or four abreast, close to one another and to those in the first group. Some of them appear to weave their way between cyclists in the two groups.

Mr Oh loses his balance and crashes soon after a cyclist moves past him on his right.

In the video, the other cyclists in his group stop at a bus stop and attend to him.

Ms Eng said that despite screams and shouts from her and the other cyclists in her group, the cyclists in the second larger group rode off.

She said: “There was no regard for the safety of others, or even stopping when they heard a crash. And trust me, cyclists can hear a crash a mile away – it’s the most dreaded sound.”

Ms Eng added that her husband had suspected hip and elbow fractures ruled out and was being monitored closely for his brain bleed.

She said in her post that a cyclist from the second group has reached out to her.

Since January 2022, cyclists are allowed to ride in groups of no larger than five bicycles in length, whether riding single or two abreast, with a maximum of 10 cyclists per group.

As a guideline, groups of cyclists should also maintain a minimum distance of 30m, or the distance of about two lamp posts, between them. Overtaking should also be done only when it is safe to do so.

The Straits Times has contacted Ms Eng for comment.

Consider hit and run?

Can LTA cancel the bicycle lane? No point already. Singapore cyclists are too egoistic to stop and help. ST should reach out to the overtaking cyclists and ask them for a comment.

LTA is so biased. Other road users cannot use the bus lane during peak hours but one cyclist is allowed to block a bus load of people? Cyclist like this defeat the purpose of the bus lane isnt it?

My wife send me a pic while on her way to work this morning.

Man taken to hospital after collision with another cyclist along Upper Thomson Road

The injured man's wife said a "peloton of crazy cyclists" caused the collision before riding off.

SINGAPORE: A man was taken to hospital following a collision with another cyclist along Upper Thomson Road on Sunday (Apr 16) morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force and the police said they were alerted to the incident at about 6.40am.

The police said the accident involved two cyclists along Upper Thomson Road towards Sembawang Road, and that a 49-year-old man was conscious when taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.

In a Facebook post on Sunday night, a woman who identified herself as the injured man's wife said that a "peloton of crazy cyclists" caused the collision with her husband, Mr Andy Oh.

Ms Serlina Eng said the group let their "egos get the better of them", ignored the safety of others and rode off despite hearing shouts and screams from her cycling group.

"No regard for the safety of others or even stopping when they hear a crash. And trust me, cyclists can hear a crash a mile away, it’s the most dreaded sound," she wrote.

Along with her Facebook post was a video showing the lead-up to the collision and the incident itself. The footage was captured via a camera that was attached to the rear of Mr Oh's bicycle.

Ms Eng and Mr Oh's group was seen cycling before a separate group of at least nine other cyclists emerged next to them. The collision occurred shortly after and shouts could be heard as Mr Oh falls onto the road.

His friends then stop by the side of the road, at the Springleaf MRT Station exit 3 bus stop, in order to tend to him and call for an ambulance.

The other group of cyclists did not appear to have stopped after the collision.

As of Sunday night, Ms Eng said that her husband suffered a "minor brain bleed" which would be "monitored closely".

"Initial suspected hip and elbow fractures have been ruled out. Good thing we were riding with friends and they were there to help."

Ms Eng added that the cyclist involved in the collision has contacted her after a friend also posted on Facebook about the incident.

CNA has contacted Ms Eng for more information.

Totally agreed with you. Not that I zek ark, but sometimes thinking at the back of my mind especially after seeing this case, I am hoping more and more cyclists crashed into each other on the road and let them feel the pain of not able to identify the errant cyclist and not able to claim for damages.

Our G is pampering these self-entitled tarts with all sorts cycling encouragement and these boosted their entitlement feel and ego even more. Want to share the road with motorists can, be fair and play by the rules. Simi cars driving in the blue lane during cycling hours will be penalised but not the other way round and no enforcement.

For bicycle registration to work, all bicycle needs to be registered.

Otherwise, motorists will complain transformer again.

That will go against LTA efforts to increase usage of bicycle.

I love the idea of bicycle registration as it reduces those show-off cyclists.

Does it make cyclists more tuakee after that? Think hard of what wish for.
