My previous car was a Jazz and I drove for 4 yrs. I didn't like the rubber band feel of CVT GB, iDSI engine is good, good low end torque and low FC. Read many complains from SHC and FJC about the CVT GB problem. Even the earlier badge of Civic ES model with 1.5L engine with CVT GB also had many issue on GB.

Subsequently, the later facelift Civic were 1.6L and normal AT GB. At one point, it was obvious that Honda was moving away from CVT, their later Jazz/Fit model, City and Civic were normal AT. I think only Airwave continue to use CVT.

I have reserve about CVT especially from Honda.

Thanks bro. Indeed I was impressed with the low-mid torque of the Gen 1 Jazz 1.3 idsi cvt when I test drove it. This is relative to my 1.4 getz. As such, I reckoned the same application on 1.5 city idsi would be even better.

In ur 4 yrs of ownership u covered bout 80k mileage? Able to share the issues that were faced (aside from the rubber band effect?) Eg, cost of maintenance/repairs, any chronic problems or otherwise?

Can we say that the only 'trusted' CVT is from mitsubishi? Cause i think mitsubishi has been using CVT donkey years ago.

erm...read lots of ranting about rubber band effect, early on set of wear & tear issues + poor pick up, lack of low-mid torque from 1.6 GLX on Invecs 3 cvt owners. Hence the final GLX MR version uses 4AT.

Even Lancer EX 2.0 owners also complain the same. But didn't come across ranting by Colt Version R owners though. I believe the 2.0 Lancer & Ver R Colt share the same unit designed to handle up to 250nm of torque.

Over my 4 yrs of ownership, I clocked close to 100K Km. I very kia su, read many complains about CVT and I fear my car will be like one of them, so I make a point to change CVTF every year (about 25K interval) although it is recommended to change at 40K interval. I recon it didn't cost much for 4 bottle of CVTF ($10 each), versus the repair cost if it fails on me after warranty period.

Other than CVT worries, the car is basically quite nice to zip around. Low FC, light on wallet, normal servicing except it uses 8 spark plugs for each change. The rear wheel bearings gave way at 40K mark, replacement cost about $300-400, but I managed to claim under warranty.

Hmm...can't recall any repair done over the 4 yrs. Oh, I replaced the fan belt at 80K, but cost like $120. I think that's about it.

The only CVT that I have confident with is from Toyota, definitely not from Mitsubishi. Have not heard CVT complains from Axio owners or outside workshop mechanics.

Actually this means that u cleared 100k mileage w/o problems to the CVT aside from fluid change. Sounds good actually. [grin] I assume that u use moderate footwork & kept ur rims to 15 inch?

Coz my mech shared that there are Jazz/Fit owners who upsize to 17 inch. They also step harder due to the loss of torque. As a result, total rebuild was required from as low as 60k mileage. Cost = almost $3k.

But yes, I think be it CVT or AT, its good practice to change or drain refill approx. every 20k mileage or so. Following the owner's manual advice at 40k....the fluid is dark brown when drained. I infer this means damage already done.

Thinking of getting a new Mazda 6...

Can anyone advise its handling? How about the quality of the servicing & pricing at the Mazda Service Centres?

Many thanks in advance!

I got my 6 for nearly a year. The handling is very good. Cornering at fast speed no problem. The service center guy are helping and friendly. As for the cost, i not sure because i got 3 year free servicing.

Do Mazda allow bring own engine oil?....

Yes,but need to sign a form,by the way the lastest Mazda can only used 0w-20 oil,i using Motul 300v now.

Me too, also a owner from the 1 st batch, this car,has good hanling, but ride comfort a bit harsh, cannot match the smoothness of Toyota Camry & Honda Accord, tires noise, also quite loud, esp the 2.5L,19" tyres, lastly the engine noise also louder than others, but fuel comsumption,is the lowest among the 2.5 in the market, average 12km/L...

I'm actually looking @ the 2.0L version. Price tag still affordable. However, I don't see much on the road hence, abit apprehensive about its performance, etc.

Actually, quite surprised to hear that no forking out of extra $ during the free 3-year servicing period for Mazda. When I sent my Japanese "T" car for servicings during the free maintenace period, I remembered having to fork out no less than $100 every time.

Just wondering now what's the price tag after the latest COE results... Any other feedback on the new Mazda 6, 2.0L?

Thanks.

You mean the new mz3 and mz6 only use 0w-20 eo?. Cannot be only one type leh... . I will not use such thin oil due to my driving habit of revving hard... Min should be w30.. w20 sound to thin for me......
